Primary Purpose of the Role:
The Applications Engineer will be part of the Applications Squad, and is responsible for the installation, maintenance, support, and optimization of business applications. This role involves lifecycle management, troubleshooting issues, working closely with end-users, and collaborating with development teams to ensure seamless application performance.
The role reports directly to the Applications LBPL, with cross-functional responsibilities to members of the Applications Management Leadership Team, the IS Project Management Group and senior Business Sponsors.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
8. Working individually and as part of a wider team to implement, test, deploy, and support solutions for applications.
9. Working closely with key customer stakeholders to understand current business process, issues and challenges
10. Following full project lifecycle requirements, develop a solution, perform quality assurance testing, and track progress to meet deadlines for internal projects.
11. Supporting the upgrade and deployment of applications across the Thales platform.
12. Manage / provide input into small projects (potentially delivered by external parties)
13. Support infrastructure design, system upgrades and customisations, workflow creation, and while working with the Apps team to develop solutions to meet business objectives.
14. Interfacing with both business and other IT functions supporting the development of business and functional requirements, status updates, enhancements, deployments, and go-live support.
15. Implementing solutions within multiple architectural environments including Linux, Windows, Apache, SQL Server and Oracle Database, etc.
16. Developing documentation for software and customisations including user guides, installation guides, and end user work instructions.
17. Learning new technologies and work alongside our experienced Consultants and Project Managers for hands-on learning.
18. Leveraging your creativity to take initiative to propose alternative solutions.
Skills/Experience
Essential
19. Experience of installing, configuring and supporting applications and tools for enterprise
20. Server administration on Linux/Windows
21. System security e.g. vulnerability management, SSL certificate renewal, application hardening/code review, application risk reviews, penetration testing, application patching and alert monitoring
22. Knowledge of scheduling tools
23. Familiarity with ERP & PLM systems
24. Application integration management
25. Writing concise technical documentation including illustrations of system architecture
26. Experience using service management and agile collaboration tools e.g. ServiceNOW, Jira, Confluence etc.
27. At least 5 years’ experience in the IT Industry (preferably within an Engineering Company)
Desirable
28. Experience of VTOM or Vega Scheduling tools
29. Knowledge of Primavera, Cobra, Fuse
30. Scripting in e.g. Python, Ruby, Javascript, Java, C#, SQL or PostgreSQL, PL/SQL, Unix Shell, C/C++, etc.
31. Knowledge of agile methodologies
32. 3 years’ experience in an equivalent role
33. Understanding of SaaS applications
34. Configuring web technologies e.g. NGINX, IIS, IBM Websphere or Apache
35. Understanding of networks e.g. HTTPS, DNS, TCP/IP, DHCP, LDAPS, SMTPS, firewalls & load balancing
36. Understanding of APIs technologies: REST/ SOAP, Kong & Apigee, Postman or GraphQL
37. Familiarity with containerisation technologies e.g. Kubernetes, Docker or Podman
