Job Description

Summary of the role

* Living the Kings’ School mission, vision and values
* Leading and further improving the school business operations
* Contributing to raising standards of pupil attainment and progress
* Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of pupils and staff

Reports to

Line management responsibility for

* Senior Finance Officer
* Senior Operations Officer
* Data Protection Officer

Responsibilities will include:

Strategic Leadership and Management

* Providing support for the Headteacher in the development and implementation of the school’s strategy and vision.
* Monitoring and evaluating policy implementation and contributing to the self‑evaluation and planning cycles.
* Taking the leading role in innovation and strategy development on all aspects of school business management, including:
* Professional growth – ‘Growing Great Leaders’ and ‘Growing Great Support Staff’.
* Communication and Marketing.
* Estate management and development.
* Effective leadership of change management to ensure successful implementation of business strategy with all stakeholders.
* Contributing to the governance of the school by advising the Senior Leadership Team and the Governing Body.
* Being responsible for oversight of support staff, including carrying out long‑term resource planning and managing recruitment, appraisal and professional development.
* Ensuring all actions have a positive impact on improving school performance and outcomes.
* Taking primary responsibility for the financial performance of the school, including best value for money.
* Ensuring an effective link between school financial planning and the school’s educational objectives; taking responsibility for business planning and forward strategy.
* Contributing to short, medium and long‑term plans to ensure the financial sustainability of the school.
* Maximising income from sources other than the local authority.
* Ensuring all practices meet statutory, legal and local authority requirements.
* Identifying additional financial incomes to support the school: funding sources, writing bids for grants.

Support Services

* Oversight of all matters relating to health & safety, compliance, fire safety, accident reporting and risk assessment.
* Overall responsibility for delivering the improvements, refurbishment and maintenance of buildings, grounds and facilities.
* Oversight of the performance of the school’s IT, catering and cleaning provision.
* Oversight of the performance of the school’s Sports Centre.
* Oversight of performance of Data Protection and SAR requests.
* Negotiating, managing and monitoring contracts and Service Level Agreements for services.

Person Specification

Qualifications

* Degree or equivalent.
* Professional qualification in a relevant field or relevant experience.

Knowledge and Experience

* Experience of leadership and management in a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Experience of working within a regulatory environment.
* Successful track record in financial management and fundraising.
* Understanding of financial modelling, budget setting, budget control and financial monitoring.
* Understanding of Health & Safety legislation as it applies to a secondary school.
* Knowledge of good practice and law relating to personnel management and recruitment.
* Knowledge of Data Protection principles and familiarity with GDPR.
* Ability to enthuse and engender cooperation among colleagues and empower others.
* Ability to build strong collaborative relationships with external stakeholders.
* Ability to effectively manage staff – developing them personally and professionally.
* Strong attention to detail, with the ability to delegate without losing control.
* Excellent planning and organisational skills.
* High level ICT skills; ability to understand, analyse and make effective use of a wide range of data.
* Ability to manage time effectively and prioritise conflicting requirements.
* Well‑developed interpersonal and communication skills (including written, oral and presentation skills).
* Willingness to take personal responsibility for further training and development.
* Evidence of an understanding of safeguarding within schools.
