Job Summary
Civils Groundworkers will support the delivery of construction and maintenance works on a live water treatment site. The role involves preparing, excavating, and reinstating groundworks to ensure safe and efficient installation of pipelines, foundations, drainage, and associated infrastructure.
Responsibilities
* Carry out groundworks including: excavation, trenching, ducting, concreting, reinstatement.
* Install, maintain, and repair drainage systems, manholes, and pipework.
* Prepare and pour concrete for bases, foundations, and structural works.
* Operate small plant and tools safely (e.g., compactors, breakers, saws).
* Assist with the setting out of works and follow site drawings / specifications.
* Use lifting equipment, trolleys, and manual handling aids correctly to move materials.
* Maintain good housekeeping across work areas and ensure safe access/egress.
* Comply with site-specific safety rules and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
* Report hazards, near misses, and incidents promptly to supervisors.
* Cooperate with engineers, supervisors, and other trades on site to meet project deadlines.
Skills
* Practical experience in groundworks, preferably on utility or water treatment projects.
* Knowledge of drainage, concreting, kerbing, and reinstatement techniques.
* Ability to read and interpret site drawings and method statements.
* Competent in using hand tools and small plant.
* Strong awareness of health, safety, and environmental compliance.
* Good teamwork and communication skills.
Qualifications & Requirements
* CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
* Confined Spaces Training (desirable for water treatment site works).
* CPCS / NPORS tickets for plant operation (advantageous).
* Manual Handling Training and awareness of safe lifting techniques.
* Full UK driving licence (preferred).
* Previous experience on water, utilities, or civils projects (preferred).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: £20.00-£21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 50 per week
