Electrochemical Lab Technician
Milvus Advanced is redefining materials science by replacing expensive, scarce elements (e.g., indium, gold, iridium, platinum) with high-performance, earth-abundant nanoalloys and functional materials. We have built a discovery and scale-up platform that turns deep chemistry into manufacturable products for energy, optoelectronics, and chemical manufacturing.
As critical minerals take centre stage geopolitically, we ask:
what happens when key elements are constrained or run out?
Rather than only optimising today's devices, we pursue transformational substitutions i.e., reducing dependence on fragile supply chains and rare elements by creating new, lab-made materials that are abundant, affordable, and sustainable. As critical minerals take centre stage geopolitically, we ask:

Rather than only optimising today's devices, we pursue transformational substitutions i.e., reducing dependence on fragile supply chains and rare elements by creating new, lab-made materials that are abundant, affordable, and sustainable.
Our technologies aim to:
* Reduce dependence on rare/critical metals
* Improve device efficiency, stability, and manufacturability
* Enable affordable, scalable next-gen materials and devices
* Accelerate the clean-tech transition
We are backed by leading global investors and are scaling rapidly from lab breakthroughs to real-world products. We have validated PGM-substitution materials and are now extending our platform into optoelectronics.
The Role
We are seeking a
hands-on, detail-oriented electrochemical lab technician
to join our growing team. You will directly support the development of advanced materials and components for electrolysis. This includes fabricating catalyst-coated membranes (CCMs), assembling membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs), and optimising electrochemical processes.
This is a high-impact, practical role in a fast-paced lab environment, with plenty of room to learn, contribute, and grow.
Location:
Oxford & London
What you will do
· Operate and maintain electrochemical equipment (potentiostats, electrochemical cells, electrolyser systems)
· Fabricate catalyst-coated membranes (CCMs) and substrates (CCSs) for electrolysers
· Assemble MEAs and integrate them into electrolysis systems for performance testing
· Conduct electrochemical tests (e.g. cyclic voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy, chronoamperometry)
· Design and modify experimental setups for electrolysers, fuel cells, and related systems
· Formulate catalyst inks and apply coatings using advanced deposition techniques (spray, slot-die, decal transfer)
· Analyse test data to optimize performance, efficiency, and durability
· Support the scale-up of electrochemical processes for commercial deployment
· Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment, ensuring compliance with safety procedures
· Track and manage lab inventory and consumables
· Calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain lab equipment to ensure reliable results
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams and share results to advance broader R&D goals
What we are looking for
· MSc in Electrochemistry, Electrochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Materials Science (exceptional BSc candidates with strong experience also considered)
· Hands-on experience in electrochemical testing and lab equipment operation
· Experience in a mechanical workshop or experimental setup environment
· Exposure to industrial or pilot-scale systems (highly desirable)
· Familiarity with coating techniques (spray, slot-die, etc.)
· Experience working with electrolyser or fuel cell stacks (a plus)
· Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset
· Comfort working in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary startup environment
