Not afraid of a challenge? We need committed, experienced, qualified, and knowledgeable social workers to help us with our core business – empowering and supporting people who need signposting, community support, or direct help from the Council.
In these changing times, the Council Leadership has reaffirmed their support for our statutory functions, including Adult Social Care. We know our priorities.
We have an established and stable team of Managers to support you. Our vacancy rates are low, and we rarely use agency staff, focusing instead on developing our permanent staff. This includes dedicated Training Officers supporting adult social care, and a Principal Social Worker to support staff welfare, practice, and CPD responsibilities. We are an innovative council, with recent upgrades to electronic recording systems, the implementation of "Magic Notes" for assessments and reports, and collaboration with health and third sector partners on systems like "Patienteer" for data sharing. We have also rolled out new IT equipment for staff.
Social Worker
If you wish to further your Social Work career in an older person’s locality team and develop your skills and knowledge in Adult Social Care, this might be the role for you.
You must be a qualified and registered (Social Work England) Social Worker with over two years post-qualifying experience. Ideally, you will have completed your Assessed Year in Supported Employment (ASYE) as a newly qualified Social Worker.
Applications from non-qualified staff will not be considered.
This role is primarily case work-focused but includes community liaison through GP Huddles and ICN+ Partnership, working with health and voluntary sectors. We are progressing our community engagement strategy with increasing community involvement and liaison. This role offers opportunities to gain knowledge and experience in working with vulnerable adults, their families, and representatives, developing links within a locality setting using support options from us and our partners.
Working in Croydon
Applicants interested in joining our progressive adult social care teams should demonstrate professionalism, creativity, and drive in person-centred practice and problem solving. We value team working, flexibility, and a positive attitude towards a rapidly changing public service environment. Croydon staff enjoy friendly colleagues, excellent transport links, and support for working from home on selected days.
We offer career progression, professional development, and a commitment to manageable caseloads. Our case load limit structure supports sustainable workloads, complemented by a comprehensive learning and training program, including our strong ASYE and post-qualification training initiatives.
Safeguarding and Equal Opportunities
Croydon Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults. The successful candidate will undergo an Enhanced DBS check.
We are an equal opportunities employer, encouraging applications from all qualified candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, or gender.
The Opportunities
As part of our service development, we are moving towards greater locality and community-focused working, emphasizing Strength-Based approaches, including short and long-term work with:
* Older people, their families, and representatives
* Residents affected by hoarding and self-neglect behaviors
Croydon offers one of the best benefits schemes in local government, including flexible working, generous annual leave, and various employee benefits. We aim to create a workplace where staff enjoy their jobs, develop their potential, and are proud to work here. Our Options benefits scheme promotes a healthy work-life balance.
