Justice First Fellow - Trainee solicitor

Justice First Fellow (JFF)-Trainee Solicitor

Contract: Two year fixed term with potential for post qualification post

Reports to: Senior solicitor & Head of Service

Location: Cambridge House offices

Salary: £32,000 per annum rising to £33,000 in the second year

Working hours: 35 (FT) hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Job Purpose
As a member of Cambridge House’s Law Centre Team, led by the Head of Service (and Senior Solicitor), the JFF will:

Assist the senior solicitor with casework and provide high quality advice and assistance in the fields of Housing, Welfare Benefits and Employment law.

Undertake project development, research and administration across Cambridge House addressing a range of community needs flexibly and proactively with the guidance of the Chief Executive of Cambridge House.

The successful candidate must have:

Qualifications: Undergraduate degree 2:2 or above and completed and passed Solicitors Qualifying Exam Part 1.

Knowledge and experience:

At least one years’ experience including specific anddemonstrable experience of specialist level social and public welfare benefits and/or housing advice.

Ability to understand legal principles

Experience of providing advice to vulnerable people and/or people with multiple and complex needs.

Experience of compiling and maintaining accurate written computerised and statistical records in line with dataprotection, legislation, the provision advice casework and the preparation of reports and submissions.

Excellent working knowledge and comprehension of written English, including grammar, copy writing and editing.

Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office including Excel and Word.

Experience of successfully completing tasks in a fast-paced environment and to deadlines.

Experience of working pro-actively and with minimal instruction.

Working with confidential data.
