Overview
Bus Driver role at Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Austin. St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School seeks to hire a part-time seasonal bus driver. The Bus Driver contributes to the safety of children while transporting them to and from school and other events, in alignment with the school’s philosophy and policies. The position is hired and evaluated by the principal.
Essential Duties
* Transports students to and from school and school activities in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
* Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
* Communicates with the principal regarding safety or discipline concerns
* Demonstrates professionalism in conduct and work habits
* Abides by vehicle maintenance and operation guidelines
* Performs pre-use vehicle checks to ensure safe operation
* Follows safety and emergency procedures while operating the vehicle
* Maintains a work schedule that supports school, students, and staff
* Adheres to safety and discipline rules for student riders
* Notifies the Principal of accidents or incidents and completes written reports
* Submits maintenance and repair requests to the Principal’s office

* Knowledge of motor vehicle laws and school policies
* Ability to manage student behavior respectfully and effectively
* Effective oral and written communication skills
* Ability to work well with others in the school community
* Ability to respond to a crisis effectively
* Knowledge of general vehicle maintenance and operation
Education and Qualifications
* Minimum Qualifications: None required
Certifications and Training
* Holds a valid Class B Driver’s License
* Holds Passenger and/or School Bus (P and S) endorsements, as needed
* Holds a safe driving record with no restrictions
* Must submit an Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Application within the first week of employment and complete EIM Basic abuse prevention training within 30 days; maintain EIM compliance during employment
Working Conditions
* Ability to manage moderate to high levels of stress
* Must work according to the assigned schedule
* Work in standard school and vehicle conditions
Employee Certification
All employees must adhere to the Catholic Schools Standards of Conduct, the Diocese of Austin EIM policies, and the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church as interpreted by the Bishop of Austin. Texas is an “at-will” employment state; employment letters are not contracts and do not guarantee a specific term.
