Concrete4Change (C4C) is a pioneering R&D company developing breakthrough technology to capture and permanently mineralise CO₂ in concrete. Our patented additive not only reduces the carbon footprint of cement-based materials but also enhances strength and durability.
We’ve recently scaled our production process 10x and are now constructing a fully integrated portable pilot plant in Nottingham that will be deployed with customers. The resulting data will directly inform the design of our next scale-up: a commercial demonstrator 100x larger.
C4C has won multiple prestigious awards, including the United Nations Climate Challenge Cup at COP26, and is partly owned by two of the world’s largest concrete manufacturers — Siam Cement Group and Goldbeck GmbH. The Role
C4C is seeking a strategic and hands-on Financial Controller to take ownership of our financial systems, reporting, and planning as we scale. Working directly with the CFO and CEO, you will own all financial operations, implement robust controls, and support our fundraising and capital deployment strategy.

Responsibilities
* Oversee daily financial operations: general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, VAT, tax compliance, and financial reporting
* Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and board reports
* Maintain full compliance with HMRC, Companies House, VAT, and audit standards
* Lead budgeting, long-term forecasting, and cash flow planning aligned with strategic goals
* Support investor relations with scenario modelling, financial models, and fundraising documents
* Track and report on public funding, R&D tax credits, and grant claims (e.g. Innovate UK, EIC)
* Implement and optimise financial systems to support multi-project scale-up and manufacturing
* Lead the audit process and coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and legal professionals
* Identify and mitigate financial risks; strengthen governance and internal controls
* Manage and mentor a growing finance team, fostering collaboration across R&D and operations
* Build a scalable finance function to support the transition from lab to full pilot to commercial plant
* Around 5+ years’ experience in a financial accountancy or finance management role for start-ups
* Strong knowledge of UK financial regulations, compliance standards, and statutory reporting
* Expertise in cost control, financial modelling, R&D tax credits, VAT, and year-end processes
* Proficiency in financial software such as Excel, Sage, QuickBooks, Oracle, or similar
* Experience working with auditors, banks, solicitors, and HMRC
* High attention to detail, strong analytical thinking, and commercial acumen
* Strong communicator, capable of presenting financial data to board members and non-finance stakeholders
* Fluent in English (written and spoken) and eligible to work in the UK
* Experience in deep-tech, R&D, manufacturing, or scale-up environments
* Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or IFA)
* Familiarity with grant funding, public-private partnerships, and non-dilutive finance
* Involvement in investor reporting, Series A/B fundraising, or capital deployment
* Experience in project-based accounting and cost centre management
* ERP/accounting system selection or implementation experience
* Understanding of carbon accounting, ESG reporting, or sustainability-linked finance
* Demonstrated ability to build finance functions from early stage through scale
* Passion for innovation, sustainability, and mission-driven organisations
