Electrical Engineer - Electrician (Mental Health Sites)
Pay Rate: £16.38 - £19.30p/h inc. hol. pay
Working Hours: Monday to Friday - 8:00am to 4:00pm
Contract: Can go Permanent after 13-15 weeks if all goes well.
General Overview
PPM Recruitment are currently seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer / Electrician to join a large healthcare contract covering Mental Health facilities across Birmingham.
This role is responsible for delivering electrical maintenance services across multiple Mental Health sites. You will ensure all planned preventative maintenance (PPM), statutory testing, breakdown and reactive works are carried out safely, efficiently and in accordance with HTM guidance, contractual obligations and industry best practice.
Duties may extend to additional areas of the estate as required by the Estates Management Team.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
Indentured apprenticeship or equivalent electrical training
Healthcare and/or Healthcare PFI experience
City & Guilds Electrical Installation qualification (one of the following):
C&G 236 Parts 1, 2 & 3
C&G 2360 Parts 1, 2, 3
C&G 2330 Level 2 & 3 (Level 4 desirable)
C&G 2560 (2357) Diploma
18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
C&G 2394 Testing & Inspection
C&G 2395 Testing & Inspection
Strong working knowledge of HTMs and healthcare compliance standardsKey Responsibilities
Technical & Operational Duties
Deliver electrical planned preventative maintenance and reactive works
Interpret drawings, specifications and technical instructions independently
Ensure compliance with HTMs, CDM regulations and all statutory requirements
Maintain accurate maintenance records using CAFM systems and digital tools
Support lifecycle planning and condition surveys through accurate plant data reporting
Carry out inspections of tools, plant, access and safety equipment
Set up and complete new electrical works appropriate to gradeCompliance & Performance
Ensure all SLA response and rectification times are achieved
Intervene swiftly where risks to compliance arise
Conduct Management Safety Visits and compliance audits
Carry out minimum 10% monthly audit checks on completed works
Ensure subcontractors and internal teams meet performance standards
Take immediate corrective action during emergency situationsEnvironment
The role will involve working within sensitive and clinical environments including:
Mental Health facilities
ITU areas
A&E admissions
Operating Theatres
Mortuary areasOccasional exposure to emotionally sensitive situations may occur.
Impact of the Role
This position is critical in ensuring that the Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health estate is maintained to a high statutory and operational standard.
You will play a key role in maintaining compliance, safety and service continuity across a live healthcare environment, supporting both the Mental Health Trust and wider hospital estate where required.
