Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our award winning research team at Oak Tree Surgery and Pensilva Health Centre. The position is for a Clinical Research Nurse to assist with the running of a number of new and ongoing clinical trials.
Part‑time contract, 25.5 hours per week, working Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 8am‑5pm.
Working as part of a small, friendly research team the successful candidate would gain valuable experience in all aspects of a trial management from feasibility to study close‑down of both commercial and non‑commercial trials. A dynamic and enthusiastic individual is required as we seek to increase our portfolio of studies and develop research partnerships with other organisations.
Main Duties
 * Coordinate and deliver research at Oak Tree Surgery and Pensilva Health Centre, planning care pathways for trial patients.
 * Recruit, screen, educate and monitor patients and collect accurate data.
 * Provide clinical care including phlebotomy, ECG, medicines administration and adverse event reporting.
 * Use in‑depth knowledge of trial protocols, ensure compliance with local, national, and international guidelines.

Responsibilities
 * Follow ICH GCP guidelines and research governance standards.
 * Support implementation, coordination and management of clinical trial protocols.
 * Identify, screen and recruit patients/volunteers according to inclusion/exclusion criteria.
 * Register randomise patients into trials.
 * Obtain informed consent under delegated Principal Investigator supervision.
 * Provide ongoing information to participants for effective informed consent.
 * Facilitate consent process with correct documentation.
 * Coordinate visit schedules and liaise with team members.
 * Provide ongoing follow‑up care during the trial.
 * Maintain clinical skills: phlebotomy, vital signs, ECG, lab sample handling.
 * Handle laboratory work safely, including centrifugation, aliquoting, dry ice, courier coordination.
 * Ensure safe storage and administration of study medication.
 * Perform other clinical procedures as specified by protocol.
 * Manage emergency situations: cardiac arrest, major incident, fire procedures.
 * Participate in clinical trial monitoring and reporting of adverse events.
 * Update senior research nurse on trial progress.
Additional Skills/Requirements
 * Registered Nurse.
 * Demonstrable research experience.
 * Excellent communication and organisational skills.
 * Proficient in phlebotomy, injections, ECGs and good clinical skills.
 * Knowledge of ICH GCP Guidelines.
 * Experience with Excel/Word; managing own workload and working under own initiative.
 * Desirable: experience in primary care, EMIS WEB, own workload management.
Professional
 * Work within professional codes; seek advice as necessary.
 * Collaborate with multidisciplinary team; contribute to governance.
 * Maintain positive relationships; uphold confidentiality per Data Protection Act.
 * Promptly report incidents per surgery policy.
Educational
 * Maintain CPD in line with NMC guidelines.
 * Attend site initiation, investigator, and interim meetings.
 * Train new staff as required.
Other
 * Cover for staff during absences.
 * Carry out administrative duties appropriate to the post.
 * Work at either Pensilva Health Centre or Oak Tree Surgery per requirements.
