This will include liaising with ward managers to support on an individual basis, but also being involved in delivering the development programme for HCSWs across Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
We want someone who has experience as a Health Care Support Worker within the Trust, who is confident in upholding the Trust values and works to the trust policies.
This exciting opportunity will be both clinical and classroom based.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Recruitment and Education Teams, in the recruitment and development for substantive and temporary workers in Healthcare Support Workers (HCSW) roles.
These development opportunities will contribute to the provision of a workforce that is kind, collaborative, expert and aspirational. The post holder will help to champion and co-ordinate the professional progression of the HCSW, particularly for those who are new to the trust and to the care environment. This will include supporting the nursing education team in designing and coordinating the delivery of the Care Certificate (FCC) and other clinical educational programmes. This will support service situated learning opportunities linked to the requirement of the HCSW role.
In addition, working closely with the recruitment team, focusing on recruitment, selection and retention of HCSW’s. The post holder will be able to prioritise duties with the support of the lead nurse. The post holder will be accountable for their own actions, demonstrate initiative and ability to work autonomously with minimal direct supervision, but must work within their level of competence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
6. To improve the patient experience.
7. To support the co-ordination, facilitation and delivery of the Care Certificate.
8. Design and facilitate the monthly induction programme for HCSW’s or other non-registered roles.
9. To support the Training and Learning Team in completing and maintaining central registers of all candidates as they progress through the development programme.
10. Ensure progression through the development programme is monitored and tracked.
11. To assist in ensuring the provision of named supervisor/assessor support for candidates registered on HCSW induction programme.
12. To work in conjunction with nursing educators to promote and support the delivery of range of generic and bespoke learning activities for new and existing HCSW's.
13. To signpost staff to the appropriate information, advice and guidance relating to the learning opportunities provided for HCSW within the trust.
14. To provide clinical or developmental support for other HCSW by working one to one or within the ward This will include moving and handling, vital signs and personal care. For substantive and temporary (bank) workers.
15. To support HCSW learners to overcome barriers to learning and provide opportunities to develop knowledge and skills that will enable them to succeed into the Level 3 Apprenticeship training pathway. Providing opportunities for them, if they should want to progress.
16. To support the nursing education team in evaluating the effectiveness of learning activities and support redesign programmes to meet the organisational needs.
17. To provide support for ward teams in identifying areas of learning for the HCSW.
18. To be a key contact for those going through the recruitment process for a HCSW role and reducing time to hire.
19. Working with Ward Managers and recruitment to complete exit interviews for HCSW leaving the organisation, monitoring and reporting themes and escalating when required.

20. Undertake continuous training and development required for the role.
21. To be responsible for allocated caseload in supporting temporary and substantive HCSW’s on the completion of the Care Certificate within the set timeframe. Escalating issues to the Clinical Educator for Pre-Professionals.
22. To work within agreed policies and procedures ensuring compliance with regulations and the code of practice for the registered organisation.
23. To assist the recruitment team with shortlisting, interviewing and assessments of HCSW's.
24. To be confident in addressing concerns and queries from staff, acting as a role model by actively listening and communicating effectively.
25. To empower HCSW to feel confident and competent within their role to in turn support the development and skills for other HCSW’s, student nurses and apprentices.
