Situated on the Cumbrian side of the border with Northumberland, Spadeadam provides the opportunity to live and work in a truly unique and beautiful area of the UK – you can choose to live rurally in the myriad of local villages and market towns, or in the cities of Carlisle or Newcastle, both within striking distance of the Northumberland and Lake District National Parks. Two coastlines are available to explore along with the World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall.
Our Opportunity
To support our exciting growth and development, we’re looking for a multi-skilled Technician with previous gas industry, pressure systems experience to join our technical team on-site here at Spadeadam.
As part of our world leading team, you'll support projects directly involved in energy transition and the UK's journey to net zero. Our pioneering research projects are sponsored by some of the world's most innovative organisations, so you will be at the forefront of investigating the use of alternative fuels, gas transmission and it's viability for conversion to greener and safer solutions.
Reporting to a technical Team Lead you'll be responsible for providing technical assistance to our project teams in the construction and development of new test rigs involving low, intermediate and high-pressure gas systems. Your duties will include the installation of pipework systems and assisting in the production of test procedures and safety systems. You will also be required to support the routine maintenance of our pressurised gas systems on-site.
Hopefully you can already tell that working at Spadeadam is no ordinary role. The nature of what we do and the impact you can make is unique. Working across a variety of projects, your role will carry a high level of responsibility, so you’ll need to be self-motivated, with the ability to work under pressure. Whilst we are located in a beautiful part of the country, the sun doesn’t always shine and with many aspects of your work being outside, you will need to be comfortable working in inclement conditions.

About You
Joining us at Spadeadam provides excellent opportunities for career progression. You’ll be stretched and supported all the way so we try to keep our essential criteria to a minimum when it comes to your previous experience. We do however hope that you will bring some of the following with you when you join:
* A minimum of a Level 3 Diploma would be acceptable an HNC/HND in relevant Engineering discipline would be desireable or a willingness to work towards this
* Experience in undertaking maintenance, fault diagnosis and rectification work in the Oil & Gas (or other similar process) industry
* A working knowledge of pipe installations and pressure testing
* Extensive knowledge of computerised planned maintenance systems
* Experience of undertaking inspection work on equipment installed in hazardous areas
* Experience of operating transmission and or distribution Gas systems
* Demonstrable knowledge of relevant health & safety regulations
In addition, we would expect candidates who can demonstrate:
* Excellent organisational skills with the initiative to plan and prioritise own workload and collaborating with others to manage conflicting deadlines
* Being customer focused, proactive and results driven is key. You’ll possess real attention to detail and be adept in working with tight response times and ensuring enquiries and issues are dealt with in a timely manner
Please note that due to the nature and location of our Spadeadam site, successful applicants will be required to possess a full UK Driving Licence and to obtain and maintain UK Security Clearance (application for clearance will be assisted by DNV).
