About the Role
We are seeking an exceptional, experienced Nursery Manager to lead our highly regarded early years setting during a 12–18 month maternity cover period. This role requires a dynamic leader with a proven track record in early years management, safeguarding, and team development. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of care, education, and compliance, ensuring that our nursery continues to provide outstanding outcomes for children and families.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide strong, visible leadership, inspiring and supporting the staff team to deliver outstanding childcare and education.
* Ensure the nursery is fully compliant with the EYFS, Ofsted, and local authority requirements, maintaining the highest standards of practice.
* Oversee all aspects of safeguarding and child protection, acting as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
* Manage day-to-day nursery operations including staff deployment, rotas, and ensuring effective ratios are maintained.
* Work in close partnership with parents and carers, maintaining excellent relationships and clear communication.
* Lead on curriculum planning, quality teaching and learning, ensuring a rich and stimulating environment for all children.
* Monitor and evaluate practice through regular audits, supervisions, and staff appraisals.
* Take responsibility for recruitment, induction, training, and professional development of staff.
* Manage nursery budgets, invoicing, and resources effectively.
* Ensure a warm, inclusive, and nurturing ethos, reflecting the values of the nursery at all times.
Person Specification
Essential:
* Minimum Level 3 in Childcare/Early Years Education (Level 5/6 or equivalent desirable).
* Proven experience as a Nursery Manager or Deputy Manager in a busy, high-quality setting.
* Strong knowledge of the EYFS and Ofsted requirements, with a track record of achieving at least 'Good' or 'Outstanding' outcomes.
* Excellent leadership, organisational and communication skills.
* Confident and experienced in safeguarding, child protection, and safer recruitment.
* Ability to build positive, professional relationships with staff, children, parents, and external agencies.
* Strong financial and administrative skills, with experience of managing budgets.
Desirable:
* Early Years Degree / EYPS / QTS or equivalent.
* Paediatric First Aid and DSL training (or willingness to update).
* Experience in curriculum leadership (e.g. Reggio Emilia, Forest School, or other pedagogical approaches).
