Nurse Specialist/Trainee - Capsule Endoscopy/IBD
Job Summary: An exciting opportunity to offer a Specialist Nurse role within the Capsule Endoscopy and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) team for Gastroenterology. This role offers personal and professional development, including gaining accreditation on completion of the wireless capsule reading course for small bowel capsule procedures. Depending on experience and successful completion of a comprehensive training programme, progression to a Band 7 will be given within 12 months.
We are looking for an experienced Nurse Specialist with excellent communication skills, a willingness to learn new skills, and the ability to work autonomously as well as part of a large multi-disciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
* Triage and establish suitability of patients referred for small bowel capsule endoscopy
* Run Nurse Led clinics including pre-assessment and consenting patients for the procedure
* Work closely with the Consultant Capsule Endoscopy Lead and the Nurse Lead to establish patient pathways for timely outcomes based on capsule endoscopy findings
* Set up, download, and interpret results (with appropriate training)
* Support the established Inflammatory Bowel Disease Nursing team in delivering care to Gastroenterology patients (with support from the IBD Nurse Specialist team)
* Support the Nurse Led Gastroenterology team and promote service user safety and dignity while driving continuous improvement

* Band: 6 (with progression to Band 7 on successful training)
* Salary: £38,682 to £54,710 per annum
* Contract: Permanent

* Location: Royal Victoria Infirmary and Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne
Person Specification
Meets All Band 7 Criteria – Essential
* Registered Nurse (appropriate to branch) with current NMC registration
* Degree level / Master’s level study, or equivalent specialist study/experience
* Evidence of mentorship experience (or ability to meet NMC mentorship requirements)
* Extensive post-registration experience in a related specialist area
* Audit/research experience and ongoing CPD
* Good IT skills and effective report writing abilities
* Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Effective organisation and time management skills
* Current driving licence (if relevant to role)
* Safeguarding knowledge/experience
Desirable
* Master’s degree
* Management experience or qualification
* Evidence of leading education/training programmes
