Senior Fellow in Paediatric Education

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for two fixed‑term (12 months) Senior Education Fellow posts in General Paediatrics. Positions commence September 2026.
About Southampton Children’s Hospital
The hospital is a busy tertiary centre covering all paediatric specialties. Fellows will provide clinical care for in‑patients and out‑patients, cover the on‑call middle‑grade rota, and deliver undergraduate clinical teaching to medical students from Southampton University.
Job responsibilities
* Provide acute admissions and ward‑based care as part of the general paediatric team during normal working hours.
* Cover the middle‑grade on‑call rota for all paediatric specialities (excluding PICU, NICU and cardiology) during evenings, weekends and nights.
* Engage in the Children’s Hospital education programme, including specialty paediatric teams, radiology, safeguarding and departmental case reviews.
* Deliver undergraduate clinical teaching to Southampton University medical students and collaborate with the General Paediatric Consultant team.
* Collect student feedback and work with educational leads to enhance the undergraduate curriculum.
* Participate in the work‑based assessment of medical students.
* Co‑ordinate and manage educational programmes for junior trainees and multidisciplinary team sessions.
* Evaluate, review and help redesign undergraduate teaching delivery in Child Health.
Qualifications, Training & Experience
* MRCPCH or equivalent medical qualification
* GMC registration with a licence to practise
* Completion of MRCPCH clinical examination or equivalent
* Appropriate knowledge base and clinical judgement
* Teaching experience
* NHS experience at registrar (ST4+) level
* Formal teaching qualification
Aptitudes and skills
* Evidence of working effectively in multi‑professional teams
* Understanding of equality and diversity and its impact on patients, visitors and staff
* Excellent communication and liaison skills (verbal and written) in English
* Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
Benefits and salary
Salary ranges from £65,048 to £73,992 per year, dependent on experience. The post includes NHS pension scheme, paid holiday (minimum 35 days pro‑rata) and other Trust benefits.

Additional information
Appointment will be made under local contractual terms for Trust‑appointed fellow doctors. Skilled Worker sponsorship requirements apply. The role is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exemptions Order) 1975 and a Disclosure and Barring Service check is required.
