Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established multi-disciplinary Learning Disability team servicing the North of Oxfordshire. We are seeking a highly motivated Consultant with skills and knowledge in the assessment and treatment of adults. The successful candidate must be interested in expanding their knowledge and skills around those presenting with learning disabilities.
The post holder will work alongside a comprehensive Learning Disability MDT comprising Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy, Physiotherapy, Psychology, and Consultant Psychiatrists. The service is supported by a Countywide Intensive Support Team (IST) and has access to an Intensive Interaction specialist.
Main duties of the job
1. The Consultant will provide senior medical input and clinical leadership to the Learning Disability Team (LDT). Medical responsibility for patients usually remains with the GP, except where a medical member of the LDT takes a patient on for continuing treatment. The post holder will have responsibility for patients seen by themselves and those seen by medical staff directly supervised by the post holder.
2. The post holder will collaborate with the team manager and other Consultant Psychiatrists to ensure effective service functioning and development.
3. The consultant will provide clinical supervision and line management to trainees and specialty doctors, including 1 hour per week for trainees and a pro-rata supervision for specialty doctors, in line with trust policies.
4. Providing direct clinical care and ensuring medical involvement in complex case reviews.
5. Providing timely documentation of assessments, management plans, progress, and discharge summaries using Trust IT and clinical records systems, with training provided as needed. Completing complex case review documentation when necessary.
