Overview
An opportunity has arisen at NHS Dumfries & Galloway for an enthusiastic Speech-Language Therapist to join our supportive Adult Speech and Language Therapy team, based at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary (DGRI). We are seeking a Specialist Speech & Language Therapist (Band 6) with an interest in working with a range of clinical aetiologies within hospital outpatient and community settings. Experience in working with virtual remote working and voice disorders would be advantageous. This role includes provision of assessment and treatment for patients presenting with acquired dysphagia and communication disorders. Depending on experience, opportunities may be provided for further training in instrumental assessment of dysphagia and voice disorders. You will have opportunities to work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary stroke, rehabilitation and ENT teams. Specialist SLT clinics are held at DGRI, namely ENT-SLT voice clinic, Head and Neck, weekly videofluoroscopy clinic and ‘Speak Out’ groups for those with Parkinson’s Disease. There is scope for flexibility within this role; this would be discussed and agreed with the team lead.
Responsibilities
* Manage your own clinical caseload and work autonomously, as well as part of a team.
* Provide supervision and support to less experienced SLTs (e.g. band 5), SLT Support Workers, and students.
* Travel independently for community working as required.
* Contribute to service development and quality improvement projects.
* Engage with ongoing professional development and skills expansion within the service’s focus on development and wellbeing.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for stroke rehabilitation and ENT services and participate in specialist clinics as outlined above.
Qualifications
Specialist Speech & Language Therapist (Band 6) with interest in hospital outpatient and community settings; experience in virtual remote working and voice disorders; experience in assessment and treatment of acquired dysphagia and communication disorders.
