This role is incredibly varied. You will be at the heart of the community, acting as a welcoming point of contact and ensuring every customer—from toddlers at rhyme-time to older residents seeking digital support—has a positive, inclusive, and enriching experience.

Key responsibilities:

* Frontline Customer Service: act as the first point of contact for all visitors, providing a welcoming and inclusive environment.
* Promoting Reading & Literacy: Actively champion the joy of reading. You will help customers discover new authors, and support literacy initiatives across the service.
* Information and IT Support: deal effectively with all customer enquiries—face-to-face, over the phone, and digitally including support with IT and digital services.
* Operational Duties: Carry out essential general library duties, support building security, and perform basic health & safety tasks.
* Events and Activities: Actively support and participate in a wide range of events and activities for all ages, from story times to digital workshops.
* Flexible Teamwork: Work collaboratively as part of a dedicated team
* Be able to travel and work flexibly across the South Lakes library locations including Ambleside, Windermere, Milnthorpe, Grange-over-Sands, Sedbergh and Kirkby Lonsdale, if cover is needed.

Who we are looking for…

Successful candidates will demonstrate a positive outlook and be ready to embrace change and service development.

* Exceptional Customer Focus: Proven experience in delivering excellent customer service and supporting colleagues in achieving high standards of service delivery.
* Communication: Highly effective communication skills, able to interact clearly and confidently with diverse customer groups.
* Team Player: You must enjoy working as part of a flexible, collaborative team across different locations.

If you have the drive, ambition, and desire to improve services for your local community, and are looking to develop a career in the public sector, we want to hear from you
