Design/Development Engineer (Pressure Vessels) – Submarines

About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Design/Development Engineer to join our Vessels and Installations Team within the Rolls‑Royce Submarines business. As the Design/Development Engineer you will be involved in all stages of product development, from feasibility and concept through design, build, development, and full lifecycle. You will develop pressure vessels, pipework installations, bespoke repair, inspection and maintenance capabilities under challenging safety constraints (ASME III/VIII Standards) to support the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine fleet.

What You Will Be Doing
* Creating full life cycle design solutions from concept to manufacture, operation and disposal.
* Integrating cross‑discipline engineering concepts with manufacturing, simulation, materials, testing and supply chain functions.
* Liaising with customers and enterprise partners, managing relationships at all levels.
* Documenting and verifying engineering information against mechanical engineering practices and references.
* Presenting at technical reviews.
* Publishing safety and technical reports that undergo customer and regulatory scrutiny.
Who We’re Looking For
* Pressure vessel design experience (ASME Section III/ASME VIII/PD5500).
* Experience designing pipework solutions.
* Knowledge of boilers (advantageous).
* CAD design software experience.
* A mechanical engineering degree or equivalent experience.
Security Clearance
Individuals must hold a Security Check clearance. Rolls‑Royce supports the application for clearance. Only UK nationals or dual nationals in MoD approved cases will be considered.
