Part-Time Personal Assistant (Experienced with Autism & Learning Disabilities)
Location: Southend-on-Sea
Hours: Starting at 10 hours per week (with additional hours during school holidays)
Rate: £17.50 per hour (Self-Employed)
Start Date: As soon as the right person is found
Happy Nest Nanny and Maternity Agency are delighted to assist a warm and welcoming family based in Southend-on-Sea in their search for a dedicated, understanding, and proactive Personal Assistant to support a 17-year-old with autism and learning disabilities.
The individual is an active and vibrant teenager with a love for football, golf, the gym, and trips to the cinema. While capable and enthusiastic about his hobbies, he can sometimes struggle to self-regulate, so we are looking for someone who brings calm, confidence, and consistency to their approach.
This role will involve:
School runs and accompanying the young person to extracurricular activities (football, gym, etc.)
Offering companionship and support during activities
Encouraging independence while providing assistance where necessary
Supporting self-regulation when challenges arise
Performing light household duties including laundry, ironing, and running errands
Managing the summer holiday schedule, helping with additional hours during this period
Sunday working will be required, as well as potential for additional hours on weekdays during the school holidays to accommodate the increased schedule
Being comfortable around family pets, as the family has a dog
The ideal candidate will:
Have at least 5 years experience in a similar role, specifically supporting young people with autism and learning disabilities
Be calm, compassionate, and patient, with the ability to stay composed and clear-headed in challenging situations
Possess strong organisational skills, and be able to handle household duties with efficiency
Have a valid drivers license and access to their own car (essential for school runs and outings)
Hold an Enhanced DBS check, and provide checkable references
Be self-employed
This is a part-time role, starting at 10 hours per week, with potential for additional hours during the school holidays and Sunday working. The pay rate is £17.50 per hour.
