We're on the lookout for a Financial Accountant to join our brilliant finance team based in our global HQ in Newcastle upon Tyne!
The Financial Accountant role is to have ownership of all day-to-day responsibilities for the financial reporting team, ensuring the timely, accurate, and compliant preparation of statutory accounts, management reports, and regulatory submissions.
In this role you will gain the coaching and experience to take over the day-to-day requirements and owning key relationships with professional firms.
This role plays a key part in maintaining financial integrity, supporting strategic decision-making, and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
What you will be doing:
* Lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting in line with Group deadlines.
* Prepare and present financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including monthly management accounts and consolidated financial statements.
* Own and coordinate all audit and tax compliance matters for UK and overseas subsidiaries, acting as the primary point of contact for external auditors and tax advisors.
* Oversee and drive improvements in the accuracy, efficiency, and control of financial processes, systems, and reporting tools.
* Conduct and review regional balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring appropriate substantiation and risk assessment of account balances.
* Provide technical accounting support across the group, including updates on IFRS developments and their business implications.
* Develop and maintain robust financial controls and procedures, ensuring compliance with internal policies and controls frameworks.
* Manage, coach, and develop a junior team member, promoting a culture of high performance, learning, and accountability.
* Assist with the preparation and submission of statutory accounts and other regulatory filings as required.
* Support finance transformation initiatives, including ERP enhancements and process automation projects.
* Due to the dynamic nature of the business, the role will also require an ability to perform sophisticated ad hoc tasks to support the wider business.
What skills and experiences you’ll need to ace this job:
* Educated to graduate Degree level
* ACA/ACCA qualified
* Ability to work at pace and accurately
* Technically strong with high level of awareness of IFRS
* Able to deliver to tight timescales
* Ability to develop solutions to complex problems and identify and implement process improvements
* Ability to take ownership of key activities to ensure timelines are achieved
* Strong Excel and analytical skills
* Flexible and motivated team player with a drive to deliver and achieve in role
* Experience of working in a group environment / multi-site international operation
