Lead Clinical Practice Facilitator (CPF) – Scrub and Robotics – An exciting opportunity to work as part of the UCLH Theatre and Anaesthesia team as a Lead Theatre Practitioner with a main focus of leading on the development and training of our theatre scrub practitioners.

As Lead Theatre Practitioner you must have good knowledge and experience in perioperative practice and an excellent understanding of peri-anaesthesia care. You must be an Operating Department Practitioner registered with the Health Professions Council (HCPC) OR an NMC registered Nurse (with appropriate and accredited post-graduate anaesthetic module/course). You will be required to lead the peri-operative team to ensure an efficient and high-quality surgical service. You must be organised, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and experience supervising a multi-disciplinary team providing high-standard patient care across a varied caseload. You must be motivated and enthusiastic, able to work under pressure and flexibly as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Ensure a welcoming, caring and safe environment, promoting, maintaining and monitoring standards in accordance with the guidelines of the NMC/HCPC and CQC. Evidence of leading teams, recruitment and retention activities and supervising students / supporting programmes of learning.


Main duties of the job

Monitor the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care including admission and discharge planning for patients and promoting best evidence-based practice. You will supervise and support staff to ensure the highest standard of care.

To take charge of the Division in the absence of Senior Nurse following performance review against the agreed KSF outline and progression through the first gateway.

To participate in clinical supervision programmes as appropriate and teach and act as a facilitator/mentor/preceptor to junior theatre practitioners and others.

To demonstrate leadership skills and experience in the management of the department and provide a high level of specialist clinical leadership.

Support the training and development programme initiated by the Division to ensure staff members achieve their full potential.

Maximise use of clinical resources, implementing best practice in patient flow, admission and discharge arrangements.

Ensure E-rota and electronic patient records are implemented and used to their full potential.

To maintain a visible presence in the ward/department and undertake clinical work as needed.

Person Specification


Knowledge and Qualifications

* First level registered nurse/ODP
* Practice Supervisor and Practice Assessor (SSSA) Training or equivalent Mentorship qualification
* Evidence of study at FHEQ level 6
* Research module
* Teaching/Assessing qualification


Experience

* Significant experience in a practice development role (clinical practice facilitator) or as senior staff nurse or ODP (band 6 or above) in scrub
* Significant experience as a scrub practitioner
* Demonstrated experience working as a mentor or learning facilitator in the perioperative setting
* Experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating teaching and training initiatives across platforms
* Experience in leading and managing teams within scrub
* Experience in managing data and generating reports


Communication

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including electronic formats
* Experience liaising with external partners across boundaries
* Demonstrated awareness of the importance of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Experience of writing business cases and reports


Personal and People Development

* Experience in supporting others' personal development
* Demonstrated evidence of own professional development in line with KSF, maintaining an updated portfolio
* Experience of managing complex situations
* Able to prioritise objectives and workload


Service Improvement and Quality

* Demonstrated ability to apply audit processes
* Participation in developing policies and protocols
* Evidence of participation in quality improvement projects


Learning and Development

* In-depth understanding of relevant national professional and PD issues
* Able to design, deliver and evaluate training programmes


People and Financial Management

* Demonstrated ability to coordinate staff
* Skill-mix and workforce planning skills
* Budgetary management skills
* Awareness of costings/finance-related negotiations in project work


Capacity and Capability

* Capacity to undertake relevant clinical work in scrub
* Evidence of cross-boundary working
* Evidence of capability to deliver teaching and training activity across different platforms
