MEICA Project Engineer – MCC Projects (Water Sector)

Role Overview
We’re looking for a proactive MEICA Project Engineer with strong electrical and control systems experience—particularly around MCC (Motor Control Centre) upgrades, replacements, and small-scale capital works in the water sector. You’ll help deliver multiple concurrent projects from early design through commissioning, ensuring work is safe, compliant, on time, and within budget.
This role suits someone who enjoys hands-on engineering, working closely with supply chain partners, and being embedded in operational water-industry environments.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery
*
Lead the engineering and technical delivery of MCC-focused MEICA projects ranging from £10k to £100k.
*
Produce, review, and approve design documentation, drawings, and technical submissions.
*
Plan, co-ordinate, and supervise site works including installation, wiring, testing, and commissioning.
*
Ensure all activities follow water-industry standards, site procedures, and statutory requirements.
Technical Duties
*
Provide engineering input on MCC design, panel layouts, cable sizing, motor protection, instrumentation, and control philosophy.
*
Support FAT, SAT, and commissioning activities.
*
Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues during installation and commissioning phases.
Commercial & Programme
*
Develop project scopes, estimates, risk assessments, and programmes.
*
Manage cost control, procurement, and variations with suppliers and subcontractors.
*
Maintain accurate project records and progress reports.
Safety & Compliance
*
Lead and contribute to RAMS, method statements, and site safety documentation.
*
Ensure compliance with CDM, water utility standards, and electrical regulations (BS7671, WIMES etc.).
Skills & Experience Required
*
Previous experience delivering MEICA or MCC-related projects in the water or utilities sector.
*
Strong electrical engineering knowledge, particularly around MCCs, LV systems, instrumentation, and process control.
*
Experience managing small to medium capital works with multiple stakeholders.
*
Ability to interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, and wiring schematics.
*
Strong communication, organisation, and contractor-management skills.
*
Competent with project planning tools and Microsoft Office suite.
*
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across regional sites.
Qualifications (Preferred)
*
Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronic Engineering.
*
ECS/CSCS, SMSTS/SSSTS, or other relevant site-safety certifications.
*
COMPEX, 18th Edition, or water-industry-specific training (WIMES, confined space, EUSR) is beneficial
