Equipment Design Authority
An exciting opportunity is available for an Equipment Design Authority to join a leading engineering organisation delivering complex, safety-critical systems. This role focuses on the development, certification, and ongoing support of a key subsystem responsible for ensuring safe and reliable system operation within advanced defence platforms.
Location: Hybrid working (3 to 4 days onsite per week)
Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 depending on experience
Working Model: Stevenage or Bristol
The Role:
• Take ownership of the technical development and lifecycle management of a complex electronic subsystem
• Act as the design authority, ensuring systems meet certification, safety, and performance requirements
• Oversee verification and validation activities to support system acceptance and compliance
• Engage across multiple engineering disciplines including systems, software, electronics, and mechanical engineering
• Support the evolution of both hardware and software design to meet changing operational requirements
• Manage technical risks and opportunities throughout the product lifecycle
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment across design and delivery functions
• Contribute to in-service support, reliability, and continuous improvement initiatives
Essential Requirements:
• Experience or strong interest in design leadership within complex engineering environments
• Understanding of systems engineering principles and lifecycle processes
• Ability to manage technical risk and support decision-making across product development
• Experience working with requirements at system, subsystem, or component level
• Broad knowledge of hardware and software integration within electronic systems
• Ability to support verification activities and interpret test evidence for certification purposes
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
