Everest Recruitment and Services is a nationally operating healthcare recruitment agency working in partnership with HSC Northern Ireland to source experienced Locum Specialist Doctors for Emergency Medicine vacancies across multiple hospital sites within the Northern Health and Social Care Trust and South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust. We are actively seeking qualified Specialist Grade doctors who are available for immediate or short-notice locum engagement across busy Emergency Departments in Northern Ireland.
CURRENT VACANCIES
We are recruiting Locum Specialist Doctors in Emergency Medicine across the following HSC Northern Ireland hospital sites: Antrim Area Hospital in Antrim, Causeway Hospital in Coleraine, Ulster Hospital in Belfast, and Lagan Valley Hospital in Lisburn. Multiple positions are available across varying shift patterns including days, nights, and weekends, on an ad hoc and ongoing basis subject to client demand and rota requirements.
PAY AND ENGAGEMENT
Locum Specialist Doctors engaged through Everest Recruitment will receive a rate of £46.00 per hour. All positions are engaged inside IR35 in accordance with current HMRC off-payroll working legislation. Payment is processed weekly via PAYE or through a compliant, approved Umbrella Company of your choice. Timesheet submission and processing is managed efficiently to ensure accurate and timely payment each week.
THE ROLE
Working within busy Emergency Departments across HSC Northern Ireland hospital sites, you will assess, investigate and manage acutely unwell patients across all age groups and across the full range of undifferentiated emergency presentations. You will work with an appropriate degree of clinical autonomy, making sound and timely clinical decisions, escalating to Consultant colleagues where required, and contributing to the safe and effective running of the department. You will be expected to supervise and support junior medical colleagues, participate in handovers, maintain clear and accurate clinical documentation, and uphold the highest standards of patient safety and clinical governance throughout your engagement.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
Candidates must hold full GMC registration that is current, active and in good standing at the time of appointment, along with a primary medical qualification of MB BCh or equivalent. Candidates must be able to demonstrate substantial post-foundation experience in Emergency Medicine at Specialist Doctor or equivalent grade, with the ability to manage undifferentiated emergency presentations independently and with confidence. Current and valid Advanced Life Support certification is required. All candidates must hold valid medical indemnity insurance through a recognised provider such as MDU, MPS or MDDUS. A minimum of two professional references covering the last three years will be required, with at least one reference from a current or most recent Emergency Medicine post. All candidates must hold the Right to Work in the United Kingdom and must provide full occupational health clearance including evidence of Hepatitis B immunity, HIV status and TB screening in accordance with HSC Northern Ireland requirements.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine or equivalent postgraduate qualification is desirable. Previous experience working within an NHS or HSC Emergency Department is strongly preferred, as is prior locum or out-of-hours experience in an emergency setting. Experience in paediatric emergency medicine and major trauma management would also be advantageous.

All positions are based on-site at HSC Northern Ireland hospital sites. Candidates must be based in Northern Ireland or be willing and available to travel to Northern Ireland for shift commitments. Shift patterns include days, nights and weekends and candidates must be available to commit to flexible working arrangements. These positions are subject to client demand and rota requirements and are offered on an ad hoc and ongoing basis.
