Employment Solicitor | 5–10 PQE | Hybrid | Top 100 | Advisory & Contentious | Flexible Targets
Employment law opportunity to join a Top 100 firm, offeringvaried, high-quality work, and the chance to grow without rigid billing targets.
This opportunity sits within a friendly, well-respected employment team based in Cheltenham. The wider firm has a national presence and brings in over £60m annually, with the employment department contributing over £5m to that total. The Cheltenham team itself is a group of 8 lawyers, including two Partners, with strong connections to colleagues in London. It’s a genuinely collaborative environment; big enough to attract good work, small enough to feel like your contribution matters.
Your caseload will usually sit around 30 - 35live matters at a time and will cover a broad mix of advisory and contentious issues. This includes everything from drafting employment contracts and advising on redundancies or restructures, to handling tribunal claims from early-stage strategy through to final hearings.
There’s also regular involvement in transactional support (TUPE and employment-related warranties and indemnities) plus senior exit advice and occasional High Court work (though prior experience here isn’t essential).
What makes this role stand out is the balance. You’ll have autonomy over your own files with Partner support where needed. You’ll also be supported in supervising junior lawyers and contributing to training and internal know-how—without being constrainedby rigid KPIs or unrealistic time pressures.
The team is looking for someone who’s comfortable working independently but enjoys being part of something collaborative. You’ll ideally be confident advising both employers and employees, with tribunal experience and solid technical knowledgeacross general employment matters. If you’ve advised in regulated environments like financial services or have dealt with DSARs, this is a bonus.
This is a hybrid role, with 2-3 days WFH (flexible). You’ll be joining a firm that genuinely supports development, with clear pathways to Legal Director and Partner, a strong mentoring culture, and no pressure to “fit the mould.”
On offer is a benefits package including 36days' holiday, private medical cover, life assurance, enhanced pension, and access to flexible, family-friendly policies.
