Job Description:
The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life-changing education and research.
We aim to be among the best universities worldwide, achieved through the talents and efforts of our staff.
Our culture empowers individuals to succeed and make a difference.
The role
A postdoctoral research fellow position in experimental nuclear physics is available at the University of Surrey. The role involves supporting nuclear structure research funded by an STFC grant.
The work focuses on understanding heavy neutron-rich nuclei under extreme conditions using exotic-beam facilities. It includes investigating nuclear properties related to shell-gap persistence and r-process nucleosynthesis, exploring phenomena like shape evolution and K-isomerism, and studying nuclear deformations and shell-model interactions.
About you
The candidate will organize overseas experiments, set up detector arrangements, and maintain the LaBr3 FATIMA array. Work involves radioactive isotope beams at labs such as GSI/FAIR, CERN/ISOLDE, and RIKEN. There is encouragement to develop personal research projects.
The successful applicant will join an active experimental nuclear physics group studying nuclei at the limits of experimental access, using gamma-ray, charged-particle, and storage-ring techniques. Candidates should have a proven research record in experimental nuclear physics.
