Aspiring Education Psychologist

Aspiring Education Psychologist – Learning Support Assistant (Salford)

Location: Salford
Salary: £101.40-105 per day
Start Date: January 2026 (Trial days available)
Contract: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm, Term Time Only

We are pleased to offer a meaningful and rewarding opportunity for Psychology, Humanities, or Social Sciences graduates to begin or advance their careers in education and social impact. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about supporting children with additional needs. Working as an SEN Learning Support Assistant in one of our partner secondary schools in Salford, you will be directly contributing to improving outcomes for pupils with SEND.

You will be supporting pupils with Mild-Moderate Learning Difficulties, Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), sensory differences, communication needs and various other SEN. Many pupils may require high levels of structure, predictable routines, and tailored emotional support. Some may also have experienced early life trauma, impacting their emotional regulation and engagement in learning.

Your role will be central to ensuring these pupils feel safe, respected, and fully included—helping to dismantle barriers to learning and participation while promoting dignity, autonomy, and positive relationships.

Key Responsibilities

1. Provide personalised support to children with Severe Learning Difficulties, Autism, sensory needs and SEMH needs.
2. Adapt learning activities for pupils with significant cognitive delays, non-verbal communication, and complex support needs.
3. Use multi-sensory, structured, and low-demand approaches to promote engagement and reduce anxiety.
4. Support pupils affected by trauma by maintaining predictable routines and relational, trust-based practice.
5. Assist in developing and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and positive behaviour support strategies.
6. Promote independence, emotional regulation, and social connection through structured and purposeful activities.
7. Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, SENCOs, and external professionals to support holistic development.
8. Record observations and contribute to reports that help shape inclusive practice and equitable support.
9. Help cultivate a classroom culture where diversity, respect, and inclusion are central values.

What We’re Looking For

10. A degree in Psychology, Humanities, Social Sciences, or a related field (preferred but not essential).
11. Experience supporting children or young people with SEN, Autism, sensory needs, SEMH, PDA, or trauma is valuable.
12. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, rooted in empathy, patience, and active listening.
13. A proactive, reflective, and solution-focused mindset.
14. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
15. A current enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
