Job Summary
Community Practitioner at EdShift, an arts-based charity supporting children and young people affected by domestic abuse. Deliver creative, trauma-informed 1:1 and group work across community settings. Join a values-led team focused on safety, connection, courage and creativity.

Job Description
EdShift is an arts-based charity supporting children and young people affected by domestic abuse. We are recruiting a part-time Community Practitioner to join our creative, trauma-informed team.

This role involves delivering 1:1 arts-based support to children and young people aged 4-21 across community settings in Calderdale. You will create safe, imaginative spaces where children can explore their thoughts and feelings through creative approaches, helping to build connection, confidence, and emotional wellbeing.

Alongside individual sessions, you may contribute to low-level group work and will work closely with families and multi-agency partners including schools, social care, and other voluntary sector services. The role requires strong safeguarding awareness, clear professional boundaries, and the ability to manage a balanced workload of direct delivery, administration, and partnership liaison.

We are looking for someone who believes in the power of the arts to support healing and expression, and who can work thoughtfully and reflectively with children who may have experienced fear, instability, or trauma. Emotional resilience, creativity, and a collaborative approach are essential.

At EdShift, staff are part of a whole-organisation team rather than tied to individual programmes. We value flexibility, shared responsibility, and a willingness to contribute to the wider life of the charity, including events and community engagement.

Part-time: 18.5 hours per week (0.5 FTE).

Join us in creating safe, trauma informed spaces where the arts and young lives unite.

Job Requirements
We are seeking a practitioner with experience of working with children and young people, and an understanding of the impact of domestic abuse and trauma. You will have strong safeguarding knowledge and confidence in working within multi-agency systems. An interest in arts-based and creative approaches is essential.

You must be able to build trusting relationships while maintaining clear professional boundaries, manage a varied workload, and keep accurate records. Strong communication, organisational skills, and emotional resilience are required.

A full UK driving licence and ability to travel across community settings is essential.

Job Responsibilities
Hold and manage a caseload of children and young people, delivering arts-based, trauma-informed 1:1 sessions across community settings. Assess need and risk, undertake safety planning, and respond to safeguarding concerns in line with policy and statutory guidance.

Maintain accurate, timely records and contribute to case management and supervision. Liaise with families and multi-agency partners, including schools and social care, and attend relevant meetings where required.

Contribute to low-level group work and support the wider life of the organisation, including events and partnership activity.
