We are seeking a Compliance & Data Protection Lead to join our expanding Finance team. The role is focused on GDPR and data protection compliance, maintaining the policy register, and acting as the in-house expert for practical data protection guidance. This is a hands-on, high-impact role that blends strategic oversight with day-to-day implementation, suitable for a proactive, solutions-focused professional who can translate complex requirements into practical, business-ready solutions.
The organisation aims to transform the later living experience in the UK and is backed by Legal & General PLC and NatWest Group Pension Trustee Limited, with plans to expand to 34 retirement villages and around 5,000 homes.
Responsibilities
* Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of our GDPR and data protection framework.
* Serve as the go-to expert for practical data protection matters, offering operational guidance and support across the business.
* Oversee compliance with internal Data Protection Policies, ensuring robust governance.
* Coordinate and deliver engaging data protection training and awareness initiatives.
* Manage Records of Processing Activities (ROPA), Subject Access Requests (SARs), breach investigations, and related documentation.
* Continuously enhance data protection controls and awareness throughout the organisation.
* Stay ahead of regulatory developments and adapt internal processes accordingly.
* Collaborate with audit teams and operational leaders to ensure a consistent and integrated approach to compliance.
Policy & Procedure Governance
* Maintain and regularly review the organisation’s policy register, ensuring all policies are current, consistent, and well-communicated.
* Support policy owners in drafting, updating, and embedding new and revised policies across departments.
* Monitor compliance with policy requirements and escalate any emerging risks or issues.
Key Requirements
* Proven experience managing GDPR compliance in a business setting, including handling SARs, data breaches, ROPAs, and DPIAs.
* Strong track record in GDPR record-keeping and performance reporting, with ability to produce clear, audit-ready documentation.
* Demonstrated expertise in conducting compliance reviews, risk assessments, and policy oversight—ideally within a regulated environment.
* Experience managing compliance in regulated sectors, ensuring alignment with industry-specific standards.
* Proven ability to deliver end-to-end compliance solutions across a range of business areas and operational functions.
* In-depth understanding of risk management processes, including identifying, assessing, mitigating, and reporting on risks.
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and present clear compliance management information; proficient in Excel for reporting and analysis.
