Overview
Medical Secretary position within the Rheumatology service at Broadgreen Hospital, Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Responsibilities
* Provide a comprehensive service to consultants, specialty teams and nurse practitioners.
* Transcribe dictation from audio recordings of clinical correspondence and documentation.
* Ensure all correspondence relating to patient care is acted upon in a timely manner.
* Liaise with patients to resolve queries and respond to consultant requests.
* Attend training and education sessions as requested by the manager.
* Manage clinic utilisation, including patient waiting lists, and schedule appointments using the relevant systems.
* Manage the RTT patient pathway: record accurately in relevant systems, track incoming referrals and ensure patients are reviewed promptly in appropriate clinics.
* Maintain clinic operational status—populate clinics, cancel appropriately when consultants are on leave, BOOK correct patients.
* Manage the follow‑up OPD wait list, update lists, contact patients, and book appointments as directed by the consultant.
* Address patient queries professionally and courteously, sharing information with relevant clinical staff.
* Ensure appropriate personnel are informed of consultant leave, study leave, sickness absence and resident doctor leave in accordance with Trust policy.
* Accurately transcribe clinical dictation and complete any arising actions as required.
* Perform any other duties required by the line manager.
Requirements
Applicants should be experienced and professional secretaries with excellent organisational and communication skills, capable of undertaking all administrative duties, planning workload, working independently and to deadlines, and maintaining confidentiality.
