Mechanical Designer
Salary up to £45,000; 33 days holiday; pension; sick pay; parking; 37‑hour week, Monday to Friday with potential flexible start and finish times; Permanent role.
A great opportunity to join an established, friendly and stable manufacturing company as a mechanical designer to develop equipment concepts and schemes that can be assembled, built and commissioned safely and effectively. SolidWorks is utilised to create detail drawings and material schedules that are clear, accurate and cost effective to meet the specification requirements. This role reports to the Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities
* Design and develop specialised machinery using SolidWorks to meet customer expectations and requirements.
* Assist with the preparation of design proposals, tenders and documents.
* Report problems and deficiencies in the design brief.
* Develop pragmatic, cost‑effective solutions and provide technical leadership to production personnel and other staff.
* Produce technical information, drawings and associated schedules and documents, adhering to H S requirements, designs, specifications and standards relating to the project.
* Attend customer visits to commission & test machines and resolve problems.
* Liaise with suppliers & distributors.
* Ensure build specifications are recorded and the system function is tested.
* Provide training and system familiarisation.
* Identify opportunities to continuously improve performance & reliability of equipment through innovative design improvements, and where appropriate the use of new emerging technologies.
Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering or design discipline (HNC/HND acceptable).
* Minimum of 3 years experience ideally as a key member of a design team.
* Extensive experience in 3D modelling with SolidWorks.
* Experience in packaging, capital equipment or special purpose machine design, of particular interest.
* Knowledge of CE and Health & Safety legislation.
* Understanding of continuous improvement techniques.
* Project management skills and ability to assess risk.
* Ability to negotiate and positively influence customers during the project process.
* Current driving licence and passport required for occasional travel to customers.
