8-Month Fixed Term / Secondment Opportunity
We are delighted to offer an exciting 8-month secondment opportunity as a Band 6 Physiotherapist to join our 12-bedded Stroke Unit, covering a planned career break.
This role provides an excellent opportunity to enhance and further develop specialist stroke physiotherapy skills within a supportive and experienced team. You will be working with patients on our Marigold stroke rehabilitation Unit at Meadow Court, Goodmayes Hospital.
You will be a key member of a well-established multidisciplinary team, working closely with Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Rehabilitation Assistants and other MDT professionals to deliver coordinated rehabilitation and discharge planning.
We welcome applications from experienced Band 5 or existing Band 6 Physiotherapists who have an interest in stroke care and rehabilitation and are keen to build their skills in this specialist area.
This secondment would be particularly suitable for someone looking to broaden their stroke experience, gain experience at a Band 6 level, consolidate Band 6 competencies, or explore specialist working within a stroke rehabilitation setting.
Main duties of the job
Key highlights of the role include:
1. Developing advanced assessment and treatment skills for patients following stroke
2. Gaining valuable experience within a specialist stroke service
3. Working in a collaborative MDT environment with regular team input and shared decision-making
4. Opportunities for learning, development and reflective practice, through regular supervision, a structured neurology in-service programme and support by senior staff
5. Exposure to service development, quality improvement and evidence-based practice.
6. Complete comprehensive stroke assessment, treatment planning and evaluation of Physiotherapy interventions working as an autonomous practitioner.
7. Complete a wide range of stroke interventions including giving advice and support, home activity or ward based programmes, rehabilitation, treatment, cognitive rehabilitation, equipment provision and home adaptations.
8. Liaise closely with the multidisciplinary team, patient, carers and other service professionals involved in care provision.
9. To have a lead role in the leadership of junior staff and support assistants through supervision, training and appraisal.

Starting with Us
NELFT places great importance on new starters being properly welcomed into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks, including mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process, new starters will also have the opportunity to meet the executive team, senior managers, and attend several drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing, and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Goodmayes, Essex.
High Cost Area Supplement - Outer London
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,714 to a maximum of £5,941 pro rata for part time).
