Postdoctoral Research Associate in Neuroscience
Aston University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) to join the UK Multidisciplinary Centre for Neuromorphic Computing. The project focuses on exploring the functional properties and mechanisms of human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell (iPSC) derived cortical neuronal networks in cortical organoids and planar cultures. Techniques include electrophysiological recording (cMOS Multielectrode array), calcium imaging, and optogenetics. The goal is to understand how cortical organoids process information, with collaboration involving statistical physicists for data analysis and experimental design.
The successful candidate will generate innovative ideas and conduct research aligned with the project plan. Depending on results, the position may be extended by 1 to 3 years.
This role offers an interdisciplinary research opportunity across neuroscience, physics, and computer science, contributing to the development of neuromorphic systems.
Key Responsibilities:
* Differentiate, grow, and maintain hiPSC-derived cortical cultures.
* Design and conduct experiments on neuronal networks using calcium imaging and multielectrode array techniques.
* Collaborate with team members for experimental planning and data analysis.
* Lead publication efforts in high-impact journals and present at major conferences.
* Participate in research initiatives and contribute to proposals.
* Support supervision of PhD and MSc research projects.
* Engage in training and professional development activities.
* Undertake other duties as appropriate for the role.
