Recently graduated and curious about a career in teaching or education, but not ready to commit to teacher training just yet?

Protocol Education is working with secondary schools across Bristol and surrounding areas to offer graduates paid roles as Unqualified Teachers and Cover Supervisors. It’s a great way to gain real classroom experience, build confidence, and see if education is the right path for you.

No QTS required. No prior teaching experience needed.
We provide free training and ongoing support so you feel prepared from day one.

What you’ll be doing

As a Cover Supervisor, you’ll:

1. Supervise pre-set lessons when teachers are absent

2. Keep students focused, calm, and on task

3. Manage classroom behaviour confidently and fairly

4. Support students to complete their work

5. Feedback to teaching staff at the end of the day

6. Follow safeguarding procedures at all times

You’ll work across different subjects and year groups, giving you broad, valuable experience in secondary schools.

Before you start, you’ll receive FREE Cover Supervisor training, created by experienced school staff, covering:

7. Classroom management essentials

8. Positive behaviour strategies

9. What schools expect from cover staff

10. How to make a strong impression and stand out

You’ll also get FREE Thrive Approach training, helping you to:

11. Understand student behaviour more deeply

12. Build positive relationships with pupils

13. Support students with SEMH and SEND needs

14. Create calmer, more inclusive learning environments

Who this role is perfect for

This role is ideal if you are:

15. A graduate in any subject

16. Considering teacher training in the future

17. Interested in education, youth work, or public service

18. Looking for meaningful, hands-on work after university

19. Exploring career options before committing to a PGCE

What you’ll need

20. A degree (or strong experience working with young people)

21. Confidence, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude

22. Good communication skills

23. The right to work in the UK

24. A genuine interest in education and making a difference

The details

25. Pay: £100–£150 per day (depending on experience)

26. Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm

27. Contract: Full-time or part-time

28. Start date: Flexible

29. Location: Bristol & surrounding areas

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
