Overview

This role supports GCSE RS Success: Empowering Non-Specialist Teachers in Wales, a professional development project designed to help teachers deliver high-quality GCSE Religious Studies (RS) who may not have a qualification in Religious Studies, Theology, Philosophy or Ethics, in line with the new GCSE (WJEC) which will be first taught in September 2025.

The Project

The project provides training, resources, and guidance to ensure that teachers feel confident and well-equipped to teach the new GCSE specification. The Administrative Assistant will play a key role in enabling smooth coordination of activities, supporting communications, and assisting with resource development.

Purpose of the Job

The post-holder will be active in providing administrative and organisational support for the project, with a focus on coordinating teacher engagement, managing events and training sessions, and supporting the creation and dissemination of teaching resources.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The post-holder will:

1. Liaise with teachers and education professionals to facilitate their engagement and participation in the research project.

2. Organise and coordinate webinars, online meetings, and training sessions to support project delivery and dissemination activities.

3. Support project communications, including drafting correspondence, maintaining contact databases, and managing stakeholder queries.

4. Assist in researching and compiling information relevant to GCSE Religious Studies teaching to inform project development and outputs.

5. Contribute to the design, development, and dissemination of educational resources such as workbooks, video content, and teaching guides.

6. Maintain accurate records of participant engagement, project activities, and feedback to support project monitoring and evaluation.

7. Provide administrative and logistical support for the research project, including data entry, document management, and preparation of progress reports.

8. Collaborate with the project team to ensure timely completion of project milestones, deliverables, and reporting requirements.

Note:

This list of duties is not exhaustive but indicates the main areas of responsibility. Additional duties may be assigned by the Head of Service/Project Lead, commensurate with the role and grade, following consultation with the post-holder.

9. The post holder will assist with the preparation of reports, presentations, and updates for project stakeholders.

10. Monitor and update online platforms (e.g., project website, shared drives, or digital resource hubs) to ensure information is current and accessible.

11. Provide technical/logistical support during online training sessions or webinars.

12. Contribute to the evaluation of project activities, including collecting and organising feedback from teachers and participants.

13. Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the role, as directed by the Head of Service/Project Lead.

14. The post holder will be expected to participate in performance review and developmental activities.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Training

Essential

18. Educated to A Level standard (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area (Philosophy, Ethics, Religion and/or Theology).

Desirable

19. Further or higher education qualification.
20. Training or certification in administration, project coordination, or education-related fields).

Knowledge

Essential

21. Demonstrate knowledge and interest in specific areas related to the post.

Skills/Abilities

Essential

22. Previous experience in coordinating pedagogical professional learning opportunities and developing teaching resources.
23. Previous administrative experience, particularly in coordinating meetings, events, or projects.
24. Experience of using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
25. Experience working in a team environment and managing workloads.
26. Experience with online meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams).
27. Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
28. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
29. Ability to manage time effectively and work to deadlines.
30. Ability to work independently and proactively, as well as collaboratively within a team.

Desirable

31. Experience in an education, training, or not-for-profit context.

Essential

32. Flexibility to attend occasional online evening meetings or training sessions.
33. An interest in supporting teachers and contributing to education in Wales.

Desirable

34. Skills in resource formatting, video editing, or digital content creation.
35. The ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh is desirable for this role.
