Physiotherapy Assistant - Inpatient Orthopaedic Team role at Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust
Job title: Physiotherapy Assistant - Inpatient Orthopaedic Team. Band 2 with progression to band 3 on completion of internal competencies. Location: Darent Valley Hospital (Darenth Wood Road, Dartford, DA2 8DA) with potential cover at Queen Mary’s Hospital (Sidcup).
Hours: Monday to Wednesday, 08:00 – 16:00 (30 minute lunch). This is a part-time post; timetable may be subject to service needs.
Date posted: 05 September 2025. This is a permanent role.
Responsibilities
* Work with and rehabilitate patients who have traumatic musculoskeletal injuries and fractures in the inpatient orthopaedic team.
* Assist in planning and delivering rehabilitation to support discharge home or ongoing rehabilitation in the community.
* Assist with elective orthopaedic patients admitted for planned care and require acute rehabilitation post-surgery.
* Assess patients, prescribe exercises, issue equipment, and document notes.
* Support weekend inpatient orthopaedic cover on a voluntary basis as needed; service may require weekend work in line with the 7-day remit.
* Operate within the orthopaedic service at Darent Valley and assist with coverage at Queen Mary’s when required.

Essential Experience and Qualifications
* Good spoken and written English; experience working with the general public.
* Experience working with individuals with a disability; NHS experience is helpful.
* Ability to demonstrate good communication skills and prioritise workload.
* Computer skills; training in local systems will be provided.
Desirable Experience
* Previous NHS experience.
* Previous work as a Therapy Assistant.
Skills and Personal Attributes
* Ability to take responsibility for actions; good communication; ability to prioritise; organisational skills; initiative; team player.
* Knowledge of physiotherapy is desirable.
* Flexible, diplomatic, problem-solving, and personable.
