Purpose of the Job
To work collaboratively with the Bermuda Head of Country, the Head of Capital Markets (Bermuda) and the Bermuda Executive Committee to manage the day-to-day affairs of Ocorian Management (Bermuda) Limited and Ocorian Securities (Bermuda) Limited, and to provide team and client relations leadership for the capital markets service line in Bermuda, working in close collaboration with the head of capital markets.
Main Responsibilities
* Manage client relationships for a diverse range of clients within the Capital Markets service line (“Clients”).
* Resolving regulatory issues with the Bermuda Monetary Authority, Registrar of Companies, on behalf of Clients.
* Attend and/or Lead client meetings.
* Serve as Directors or Alternate Directors for a small portfolio of clients.
* Ensure quality assurance for all work delivered to Clients, including:
* quality control and oversight over statutory financial reporting for insurance clients
* quality control and oversight for all listing services on the Bermuda Stock Exchange
* quality control and oversight over financial reporting services.
* quality control and oversight over Bermuda regulatory filings including Economic Substance.
* Directly manage a portfolio of key client entities.
* Manage employer relationships, providing guidance, mentorship and coaching as necessary.
* Set annual goals and objectives for the Team.
* Monitor progress of goals and objectives on a quarterly basis, as part of the performance appraisal process.
* Create a co‑operative, team‑oriented work environment.
* Ensure that team members are assigned balanced portfolios.
* Provide required “on the job” training, adequate technical support, and appropriate supervision for the Team.
* Identify and facilitate delivery of required training, with emphasis on insurance, governance, and compliance.
* Identify and recommend seminars, workshops, lunch and learn for the Team in support of CPD requirements.
* Monitor chargeable vs non‑chargeable time for team members and develop plans to improve profitability.
* Monitor/manage financial performance of the Team, referencing agreed key performance indicators (“KPI’s”).
* Monitor head count requirements and assist in the recruitment of team members where necessary.
* Provide team leadership and promoting an atmosphere of cooperation, teamwork, and support.
* Manage vacation and planned/unplanned absences in the Team to ensure that no disruption of client service.
* Function as an Officer and/or banking and authorised signatories for Ocorian and Clients where necessary.
* Function as a subject matter expert for insurance related services in the Bermuda office.
* Assist with business development and marketing initiatives for Capital Markets and the wider Bermuda office.
* Manage accounts receivables, in line with Ocorian policy.
* Provide general business administration for Ocorian Securities (Bermuda) Limited (“OSEC”).
* Develop, monitor, and maintain strong internal controls for OMBL and OSEC.
* Monitor compliance with relevant regulations for OMBL and OSEC as regulated entities.
* Function as part of the executive management team in Bermuda (if required), representing OMBL and OSEC.
* Participate in management committees for Ocorian entities and Clients if requested.
* Prepare reports for management and service line leadership as appropriate.
* Perform other activities as may be reasonably required by the role from time to time, including special projects.
Qualifications
* Proven ability to review and analyse financial statements and financial reports for trusts, insurance companies and other entities.
* A minimum of seven (7) years post‑qualification experience working extensively with US GAAP, IFRS, IFRS SME and other Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
* Completed or in advanced stages of completion of an insurance designation such as ARm, ARe or CPCU.
* Minimum 3+ years experience working within the Bermuda insurance industry.
* Working knowledge of Bermuda’s regulatory environment, including FATCA, CRS, AML/ATF.
* Working knowledge of Bermuda’s economic substance regime and experience advising clients on compliance.
* Extensive knowledge of Insurance Linked Securities, captives, insurance, and reinsurance.
* Experience working with insurance brokers, insurance agents, auditors, and actuaries.
* Detailed knowledge of Bermuda Insurance Act and associated regulations with respect to captive and commercial insurance including the preparation and analysis of required statutory filings.
* Flexibility to work outside of standard working hours to meet client deliverables and accommodate clients in other time‑zones.
* Proven team leadership experience, (minimum of 5 years) with proven ability to coach, mentor and guide accountants, accounting assistants, and other professional staff in their daily work.
* Ability to lead client meetings including board meetings.
* A working knowledge of:
* the Companies Act, 1981
* Statutory regulations relating to the administration of companies in Bermuda.
* the Economic Substances Act 2018 and related regulations.
* the Bermuda Corporate Service Provider Act.
* Bermuda AML/ATF Legislation.
* Segregated Accounts Act 2000.
* Proven problem‑solving abilities relative to insurance and non‑insurance entities in Bermuda.
* Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of applications, specifically MS Word and Excel.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Excellent client relationship, organizational and time management skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and strong work ethic.
* Excellent ability to read, analyse and understand contracts, insurance policies, and other legal documents.
