About SailGP:
The Rolex SailGP Championship is the most exciting racing on water, where anything can happen in short, adrenaline-fueled battles between national teams at iconic stadium destinations worldwide. Top athletes fly in identical high-tech F50 catamarans faster than the wind, at speeds approaching 60 mph. Founded in 2018, SailGP is one of the world's fastest-growing sports and entertainment properties, now heading into its sixth season.
Background:
Are you ready to help tell the stories of one of the most exciting properties in global sport and entertainment? SailGP is looking for a dynamic and experienced PR professional to take our storytelling to the next level.
This newly-created role – Global Media Communications Manager (Sport) – will be at the forefront of our global media strategy, driving meaningful coverage and supercharging our storytelling across our global markets. As part of our global communications department, you will work closely with internal teams as well as external stakeholders, including SailGP teams, partners and broadcasters, to shape the public image of our sport, events and athletes.
This is a rare opportunity to combine your passion for sport, storytelling and strategic communications in a role that puts you at the heart of the sport and entertainment industry.
Key Responsibilities:
* Working alongside regional leads, agency partners to develop and execute global media distribution
* Play a driving role in our editorial function, working alongside content, social and other editorial teams to craft and deliver compelling, year-long narratives
* Serve as our internal press office function, helping to coordinate the end-to-end management of global news distribution alongside our in-house team, external partners and agencies
* Craft and deliver compelling communications that showcase both sporting performance and broader league narratives – developing and executing athlete storytelling initiatives that promote the sport, amplify personalities, team / athlete storylines, and ultimately drive deeper engagement
* Oversee a range of global media touchpoints, including commentary briefings, virtual roundtables, press conferences and more
* Build and maintain strong relationships with international media outlets, journalists, and content distributors
* Lead year-round media engagement, working alongside regional communications leads and teams to identify and build strategic relationships
* Monitor and analyze the global media and communications landscape, identifying new opportunities and emerging platforms
* Collaborate with athletes, teams, broadcasters and production teams to align storytelling with brand and sporting objectives
* Support media operations at SailGP events – with travel to some, and others remotely from our remote broadcast studio in Ealing (London, UK)
* Develop and produce media releases, VNRs, media toolkits, briefing notes, and other press materials tailored for global distribution
* Coordinate and oversee media tools and distribution systems.
* Track performance across channels and report on effectiveness of distribution and campaigns to aid data-driven decision-making.
What we're looking for:
* Relevant experience in communications, media or journalism
* Past experience with a rightsholder (team or league), and working with athletes strongly preferred
* Deep understanding of the sports media landscape globally, particularly in the U.K.
* A natural storyteller with a sharp news sense and track record of securing impactful coverage
* A confident leader with experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects
* Highly organised, with the ability to juggle multiple campaigns and deadlines
* A collaborative communicator who thrives in fast-paced, high-performance environments
* Great at building relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver results
* Knowledge of sailing / other racing properties favorable but not required
Location:
This role will be based out of SailGP's new London-based offices in Chelsea; however, standout candidates from other markets will be considered by exception. We value an engaged workforce, powered by in-office collaboration – as such, employees are expected to work primarily from this space plus other SailGP locations, where required. This includes select SailGP events as well as our London-based remote broadcast studio in Ealing.
SailGP is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace committed to building a team culture that celebrates diversity, equity and inclusion.
