Technology Lead
Methods is a £100M+ IT Services Consultancy based in the UK, partnering with central government departments and agencies to transform public sector operations. With over 30 years of experience, we focus on creating end-to-end business and technical solutions that are people-centred, safe, and future-oriented. Our human-centric approach sets us apart, emphasizing value and sustainability for clients, staff, communities, and the planet.
We support project success through collaboration, skill sharing, and learning from mistakes. While primarily focused on the public sector, we are expanding into the private sector. Methods was acquired by the Alten Group in 2022.
Role Overview
We are recruiting a Technology Lead for a permanent on-site position, responsible for providing strategic and hands-on technical leadership for a complex Azure Stack Hub (ASH) and Private Cloud program. The role involves shaping the technical vision, driving innovation, ensuring architectural integrity, and delivering secure, scalable solutions. This role mirrors a CTO's responsibilities within our internal structure, aligning technical direction with program goals and fostering a high-performance engineering culture in hybrid environments.
Requirements
I. Core Technical Leadership & Strategy

Define and communicate the technical vision aligned with business objectives
Develop and implement strategic technology roadmaps for hybrid and private cloud environments
Establish technical governance, standards, policies, and frameworks
Identify and mitigate technical risks, including contingency and disaster recovery plans
Promote innovation through technology scouting and fostering a forward-thinking culture
Manage technical budgets for cost-effective investments

II. Deep Technical Expertise (ASH & Private Cloud)

Lead design and deployment of Azure Stack Hub infrastructure, ensuring performance and resilience
Enable core services (IaaS, PaaS) on ASH with secure identity management and hybrid connectivity
Oversee operations like patching, monitoring, upgrades, and troubleshooting
Guide virtualization, storage, networking, and compute infrastructure management in private clouds
Champion automation, orchestration, and Infrastructure-as-Code practices

III. Complex Technology Landscape Management

Lead integration efforts across ASH, private cloud, and legacy systems
Implement security practices and API management strategies across multi-cloud/hybrid stacks
Navigate regulated environments considering data sovereignty, latency, and disconnected operations

IV. Leadership & Management

Inspire and lead technical teams, fostering excellence and collaboration
Communicate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Delegate effectively and make informed decisions under pressure
Manage vendor relationships and support agile delivery (Scrum, Kanban)

V. Soft Skills & Personal Attributes

Operate with strategic foresight, balancing short-term needs with long-term vision
Demonstrate resilience and adaptability
Collaborate across functions and stakeholder groups with a solutions-focused approach
Maintain a learning mindset to stay current with emerging trends

Key Considerations for the Program

Deep understanding of specific use cases and constraints for ASH deployment (e.g., data sovereignty, disconnected environments)
Familiarity with private cloud stacks and vendor technologies
Ability to operate effectively in highly regulated, security-sensitive environments

This role requires Security Clearance and eligibility for Developed Vetting. Candidates will need to complete a Baseline Personnel Security Standard check during onboarding. Details are available on Gov.UK. If unable to meet these criteria, employment may be delayed or rejected, which will be discussed during the interview process.
