We are expanding our Urology service at The Harborne Hospital and are seeking a Clinical Nurse Specialist to support the Birmingham Prostate Specialists Service. This full‑time role offers 37.5 hours per week, with flexibility for candidates who may prefer part‑time hours. You will play a key role in delivering specialist nursing care to patients with both benign and malignant urological conditions, providing expert education, treatment, and clinical support throughout their care pathway. You will also contribute to MDT discussions and clinical decision‑making, supported by senior nursing colleagues, an experienced team of surgeons and oncologists, and the wider multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
Deliver comprehensive pre‑operative counselling for patients undergoing prostate cancer surgery; teach clean intermittent catheterisation and self‑dilation; carry out and interpret flow‑rate assessments and bladder scans; administer intravesical chemotherapy and immunotherapy; manage patients with painful bladder conditions; coordinate MDT lists and participate in remote meetings when required; support ward teams; contribute to audits; communicate confidently with patients and carers; make autonomous decisions using clinical judgement; act as a knowledgeable resource for patients and colleagues ensuring high standards of care are consistently maintained; work within your professional code of practice; help refine clinical protocols; apply evidence‑based practice; continue to develop your specialist knowledge.
Qualifications
* Experience in urology surgical care
* Strong clinical judgement and the ability to work autonomously
* A patient‑centred approach with excellent communication skills
* Desirable experience in oncology nursing
* Familiarity with bladder scanners and flow‑rate monitoring
* Commitment to evidence‑based practice and ongoing professional development
