ABC Teachers are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join the team at Mary Elliot Academy, a thriving SEND school in Walsall supporting students aged 11–19 with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC).
As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, you’ll work closely with experienced teachers and therapists to deliver personalised support that promotes learning, independence, and communication. Your role will involve helping students to access the curriculum, supporting with sensory and therapy-based activities, and encouraging progress in a nurturing and structured environment.
This position is ideal for anyone with experience in education, care, or health settings, or for those who are passionate about supporting young people with additional needs.
Key Responsibilities
Support pupils with SLD, PMLD, and ASC both 1:1 and in small groups.
Assist with communication, sensory activities, and personal care when required.
Adapt learning materials to meet individual student needs.
Promote emotional and social development through consistent support.
Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and families to achieve positive outcomes.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Experience supporting young people with SLD, PMLD, or ASC.
A calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
Willingness to assist with personal care when required.
A proactive attitude and a genuine passion for supporting others.
A DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
