We are looking for a senior therapeutic radiographer to join the team at Basingstoke Radiotherapy Department, a Satellite centre for UHS. Across both sites, we have a large and friendly team of over 60 clinical radiographers and assistants delivering high‑quality radiotherapy treatment to over 2,800 cancer patients each year.
The role involves day‑to‑day care of radiotherapy patients, working in pre‑treatment and treatment units, and providing safe, state‑of‑the‑art patient‑centred care.
Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
We are a CHKS‑accredited department delivering highly specialised radiotherapy treatments for a variety of tumour sites. Southampton is also a tertiary referral centre for neuro‑oncology, haematology, lung, bone and nodal SABR, and the only centre in the country delivering intra‑operative radiotherapy (IOERT) for pancreatic and GI tumours.
At Basingstoke, we have 1 Elekta Linear Accelerator with Align RT, 1 planning CT scanner, and the team is involved at every step of the radiotherapy pathway from planning to treatment for breast, prostate and palliative patients.
Combined, we are the largest radiotherapy centre on the south coast. Southampton comprises 6 Elekta Linacs, 1 orthovoltage machine, 2 planning CT scanners, and a full brachytherapy service.
Job Description And Responsibilities
At University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, we have a large and friendly team of over 80 radiographers and Advanced Practitioners delivering high‑quality radiotherapy to over 3,500 cancer patients each year.
The post holder will be responsible for radiotherapy pre‑treatment and treatment delivery as part of a team within the Basingstoke Satellite Centre.
What You Will Do
* Lead the delivery of radiotherapy treatment.
* Calculate and record radiotherapy treatments accurately.
* Lead in the planning of radiotherapy treatment.
* Be responsible for the well‑being and care of patients during their radiotherapy.
What We’re Looking For
* Enthusiastic individuals with a Degree in Therapeutic Radiography or a Diploma from the College of Radiographers.
* A state registration with the HCPC.
* Excellent written and verbal English language skills.
* Experience with a wide variety of radiotherapy techniques and equipment.
* Ability to communicate with a wide range of people.
* Ability to lead the team and work as a team member.
* Ability to work under own initiative.
* Be able to take instructions/directions and work within the confines of the role.
Hours and On‑Call
The normal department working hours include 7.5‑hour shifts between 0700‑2000 Monday‑Friday. We also provide on‑call services for MSCC patients during the weekend.

Essential criteria (Qualifications)
* Degree in Therapeutic Radiography, or Diploma of College of Radiographers.
* Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
* Defined area of specialist practice/experience with caseload management.
Desirable criteria (Qualifications)
* Higher degree / Diploma in Management.
* Project management / educational experience.
* Understanding of wider radiotherapy agenda e.g. radiotherapy specialised commissioning and service specifications.
Essential criteria (Experience)
* Experience of working to a high standard with a wide variety of radiotherapy techniques & equipment.
* Knowledge / experience of modern radiotherapy technique.
* Ability to lead a team as well as work as a team member.
* Ability to manage a unit, use own initiative and be punctual.
* Be able to take instruction / directions and work within the confines of the role.
