This has allowed us to promote from within on several occasions. Why this role matters This role keeps our delivery engine running smoothly across all customer projects. You’ll oversee our portfolio from a risk, dependency, and resource planning perspective, while personally managing select strategic projects. You’ll also line manage our Project Managers, coaching for delivery excellence and a supportive, high-trust culture. What you’ll do Portfolio oversight (risk, resources, dependencies) Own the cross-project risk register —surface risks/dependencies early and drive actions to closure. Run capacity and resource planning across delivery—balancing skills, utilisation, and wellbeing. Maintain a clear delivery roadmap with portfolio-level milestones, benefits, and interlocks. Chair concise portfolio governance routines (reviews, risk forums, go/no-go) with exec-ready reporting. Drive consistent project controls (RAID, schedules, budgets, change control, quality gates). Project management of strategic initiatives Act as Project Manager for a small number of high-impact customer or internal transformation projects. Select and tailor delivery approach (Waterfall/Agile/hybrid); manage scope, schedule, budget, quality. Lead stakeholder engagement and change management to secure adoption and outcomes. Coordinate partners/vendors and guard commercial integrity (SOWs, CRs, forecasts). People leadership Direct line management of Project Managers: objectives, regular 1:1s, coaching, performance reviews, and growth. Build a collaborative, psychologically safe environment; recognise wins and remove blockers early. Support hiring, onboarding, and knowledge-sharing across the practice. Methods, assurance, and continuous improvement Evolve our delivery playbook (templates, stage gates, reporting standards). Run assurance reviews/health checks; lead retrospectives and corrective actions. Optimise PMO tooling and data quality (planning, timesheets, RAID, portfolio dashboards) and drive adoption. Stakeholder & commercial management Translate business goals into measurable outcomes and benefits. Provide crisp portfolio updates to SLT and customers; tailor communication to audience. Partner with Sales/Finance on commercials (SOWs, change, margin/forecast inputs). What you’ll bring Essential (must-have) Sector experience: Proven delivery leadership in ERP/finance environments (multi-project portfolio plus hands-on project delivery). Qualifications: One or more recognised certifications, e.g. PRINCE2 Practitioner, APM PMQ/PPQ, ScrumMaster/SAFe, Lean/Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt) or equivalent. PMO tooling improvement: Demonstrable success optimising and improving PMO tools/processes (e.g., Smartsheet, Jira, Planner, PSA, HubSpot/CRM, Power BI/Looker dashboards), including workflow design, standards, and adoption. Portfolio management: Practical ownership of risk management, resource planning, and dependency management across multiple projects. Project management: Track record delivering complex, multi-stakeholder projects end-to-end. People leadership: Line-managing PMs or senior consultants; coaching for outcomes. Controls & communication: Strong command of RAID, planning, budgeting, change control, and exec-level reporting; excellent stakeholder engagement and written/verbal comms. Change leadership: Able to design and run stakeholder and change strategies that drive adoption. Nice to have Experience with benefits realisation and post-go-live adoption metrics. Familiarity with commercial management (margins, forecasting) in partnership with Finance/Delivery leads.
