Job Overview
* To undertake routine maintenance work and minor repair work, across the Royal United Hospital Site as directed.
* Work with and assist qualified staff in maintenance works.
* The job description is intended to provide a broad outline of the main responsibilities only. The post holder is required to be flexible in developing their role in agreement with their designated manager.
Main duties of the job
* To carry out inspections, tests, repairs, installations, as directed on trust properties, plant and infrastructure.
* To undertake work as identified on works dockets allocated to you completing the works docket legibly in accordance with the Estates procedure.
* To report Faults identified either when carrying out routine checks /planned preventative Maintenance or in the course of the normal working day.
* To undertake planned preventative maintenance checks and complete report sheets legibly as required, in accordance with trust procedures and policies.
* To identify parts and or equipment required to carry out designated work and use Estates Stores system to obtain required items in accordance with Trust Standing Financial Instructions.
* To investigate technical failures as directed and identify the permanent repair required, to ensure ongoing reliability and statutory compliance.
* To assist other estate staff at all levels with technical works and technical problem solving where requested.
* To adhere to the trust procedures where "permit to work " is in place
* To book time worked and notes on all jobs using the handheld computerised CAFM system app. Also to use any other computer systems required to undertake works.

Essential criteria
* City & Guilds/Apprenticeship, relevant certification or equivalent experience or… Demonstrable in-depth knowledge and experience working within a healthcare environment
* Range of routine work procedures requiring job training Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems and tools; gained through training and induction, part qualification or equivalent
Desirable criteria
* Trained in health and safety Member of various technical institutes ie. IHEEM, HEFMA, CIBSE etc.
* Experience working in a similar role Good knowledge of energy efficient working practices

* Physical Skills - Physical skills obtained through practice. Use of hand tools, standard driving Physical effort - Occasional/ frequent moderate effort for several long periods; occasional intense effort for several short periods Heavy repairs, move equipment; move heavy materials, boiler casings Emotional effort & Key stressors - Exposure to emotional or distressing situations is rare/occasional. Contact with terminally ill patients on wards
* Work in hot, cold and dirty environments, in plant rooms and external areas Working off ladders and on roof tops Working with PPE as required in contaminated areas

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
