Job Shop Recruitment has a fantastic opportunity for a Temporary / Contract Food & Beverage Manager for our client of based in Paignton.
The Food & Beverage Manager leads the day‑to‑day operation of all catering outlets, delivering an exceptional and guest‑focused experience through a highly visible, hands‑on presence on the restaurant floor. The role ensures smooth, efficient service while driving commercial performance, maintaining the highest standards of food safety and compliance, and developing a motivated, high‑performing team. Working closely with the colleagues, ensuring the catering operation consistently enhances the visitor experience and contributes to organisational success.
Key duties of the role:
* Lead the daily operation of all catering outlets, including seasonal kiosks, with a strong and visible presence on the restaurant floor.
* Deliver a consistently high-quality, guest-facing service by actively engaging with visitors throughout service periods.
* Provide day‑to‑day direction, support, and supervision to the F&B Team, ensuring efficient and professional frontline service.
* Manage staffing levels, rotas, performance, and team development to always ensure excellent guest service.
* Create and reinforce a culture of excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
* Ensure all team members are trained appropriately in Food Hygiene, Health & Safety, and COSHH requirements.
* Oversee and manage KPIs, ensuring expenditure remains within budget.
* Review and analyse financial performance, including P&L, and report insights to the Head of Operations.
* Ensure all financial procedures are followed, including accurate cash handling, security of company assets, and correct use of till systems.
* Maintain stock accuracy through effective stock rotation, ordering, and honest, timely stock audits.
* Uphold all legal obligations relating to food safety, hygiene, licensing, and Health & Safety, implementing updated procedures where necessary.
* Serve as a personal licence holder and comply with Licensing Act 2003 principles.
* Ensure all documentation and food hygiene record‑keeping remains compliant and ready for Environmental Health inspections.
* Act as a key holder and ensure all operational and security procedures are always followed.
* Maintain catering equipment and ensure maintenance contracts are in place, updated, and actioned when needed.
* Handle guest queries, requests, and complaints professionally and promptly, ensuring an exceptional visitor experience.
* Continually seek ways to enhance food quality, service delivery, operational processes, and profitability.
Requirements
· Food Hygiene Level 3 minimum (or willingness to obtain on appointment)
· IOSH Managing Safely
· Demonstrable experience managing a high‑volume food and beverage operation
· Strong background in hands‑on restaurant or catering leadership, working front‑of‑house during peak service

· Experience supervising, developing and motivating a team
· Proven experience managing budgets, KPIs, stock control and cost management

· Experience working with till systems and cash handling duties
· Strong leadership and people management skills with a collaborative, coaching style
· Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with guests and staff
· Highly organised with strong operational planning abilities
