Vehicle Technician (Level 3)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Level 3 Vehicle Technician to join our established automotive workshop. The role involves carrying out a wide range of service, maintenance, diagnostic, and repair work on modern vehicles, including petrol, diesel, and light commercial vehicles. The successful candidate will be confident working with both mechanical and electronic vehicle systems and capable of diagnosing faults accurately and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
1. Carry out scheduled servicing in line with manufacturer service schedules
2. Perform mechanical repairs including brakes, suspension, steering, exhausts, timing belts/chains, clutches, and engine components
3. Diagnose and rectify faults across engine management, ABS, airbag (SRS), traction control, and electronic stability systems
4. Identify and repair electrical faults including wiring, sensors, actuators, batteries, charging systems, and starter motors
5. Use manufacturer-level and aftermarket diagnostic equipment to interrogate vehicle ECUs, read fault codes, live data, and carry out system tests
6. Carry out fault-finding using wiring diagrams, technical data, and guided diagnostics
7. Reset service indicators and perform ECU coding/adaptations where required
8. Carry out pre-MOT inspections, fault rectification, and MOT failure repairs
9. Conduct road tests before and after repairs to ensure issues are fully resolved
10. Ensure all repairs meet safety, quality, and compliance standards
11. Accurately document diagnostic findings, repair work completed, and parts used
Skills & Technical Experience Required
12. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
13. Strong experience diagnosing faults on modern vehicles
14. Good understanding of engine management systems, CAN bus networks, and vehicle electronics
15. Confident using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and diagnostic scanners (desirable)
16. Ability to interpret live data and technical fault information
17. Knowledge of health & safety procedures and workshop best practice
18. Ability to work to efficiency targets without compromising quality
Desirable Technical Skills
19. MOT Tester qualification
20. Hybrid and Electric Vehicle awareness or qualifications
21. Experience with dealer-level diagnostic platforms
22. Air conditioning service and repair certification
