Assistant Accountant
Salary: £35,000 - £38,000 + bonus & benefits
Location: Malmesbury
Duration: Permanent
A well-rounded Assistant Accountant role within a busy, high-performing finance team, supporting a group of private businesses.
This is a replacement hire due to internal promotion, offering strong exposure, structured support, and clear progression.
The Role
Working closely with the Finance Manager and Financial Controller, you’ll support core financial reporting and month-end processes across multiple entities.
Key responsibilities include:
* Preparing and posting month-end journals (prepayments, accruals)
* Balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules
* Assisting with management accounts, including analysis and commentary
* Supporting VAT and tax reporting processes
* Assisting with budgets and cash flow forecasting
* Supporting statutory accounts preparation and audit processes
* Ad hoc support across the finance team
The role sits within a fast-paced environment and requires someone comfortable taking ownership of their work.
Candidate Profile
Essential:
* Studying towards ACCA/CIMA, or recently completed AAT
* Experience with month-end processes (journals, accruals, prepayments, reconciliations)
* Strong Excel skills
* Able to work independently and manage priorities
Desirable:
* VAT exposure
* Exposure to budgeting or cash flow
Personal attributes:
* Proactive and willing to learn
* Good communication skills
* Adaptable and comfortable in a busy environment
