Job Overview
Surrey and Sussex Magistrates Courts operate within HMCTS’ South East Regional Operation. The role supports the smooth running of the courts, leads an operational team and works with the Operations Manager to achieve performance objectives and deliver a consistent, customer‑focused service.
Key Responsibilities
* Ensure the smooth running of Surrey and Sussex Magistrates Courts and support the Operations Manager with performance objectives.
* Lead and manage the operational team, setting local priorities and objectives aligned with national and regional strategies.
* Maintain positive and effective working relationships with the judiciary, court agencies, voluntary and user groups.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
* Constructively manage complaints and complete corrective actions within set timescales.
* Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, IT and workstation standards and report facility issues to HMCTS Estates.
* Meet full‑time working hours of 37 hours per week; travel occasionally to Brighton Magistrates Court and other sites in Surrey and Sussex.
* Maintain standard operational reporting and performance metrics.
Qualifications & Experience
• Experience leading a team in a process- and compliance-driven environment.
• Demonstrated ability to engage with people at all levels and deliver excellent customer service.
• Strong communication, influencing and problem‑solving skills.
• Experience in managing budgets, resources and training plans.
• Understanding of government or public sector operations, particularly court or justice services.
• DBS Basic security check required.
Eligibility Requirements
Skilled Worker visa holders only if they held the visa prior to 22 July 2025. Current UK residence and a right to work in the Civil Service and United Kingdom are required.
