The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) is looking for a Capital Works Project Manager to manage the delivery of local and regional capital works projects of small to medium scale and complexity, providing advice and guidance on design, construction, installation and future maintenance matters, managing associated staff and budgets. The post holder will also provide effective contract procurement, budget and contract management.

About the role

Key responsibilities in this role include:

* Manage a range of local and regional capital projects.
* Work closely with Procurement to procure relevant services.
* Ensure contracts are managed and executed in line with contract terms, including NEC and JCT.
* Maintain all project files, including governance, health and safety, cost plans, statutory approvals, procurement, and risk management.
* Obtain all statutory approvals as necessary.
* Manage the design of the projects in accordance with the brief, relevant guidance, regulatory standards and legislation.
* Conduct regular site visits and inspections, ensuring completed works comply.
* Liaison with colleagues in relation to the asset portfolio and health and safety matters.
* Manage the capital works budgets, ensuring all expenditure is accountable and certified.
* Strive to achieve best value for money on all projects.
* Liaise with the legal team on issues in relation to contracts, consultant terms of engagement etc.
* Maintain awareness and knowledge of evolving regulatory obligations and technical aspects of compliance.


About you

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage and coordinate complex projects in a dynamic environment.

Essential:

* Construction Management Degree or similar or qualified by experience
* Working knowledge of Facilities / Property / Asset management teams.
* Working knowledge of Project Management.
* Working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and its implementation.
* Previous experience in Project Management.
* Previous experience of managing contractors and contracts.
* Previous experience in monitoring budgets and contract spending.
* Previous experience of building and maintaining good working relationships with internal teams, stakeholders and external service providers.

Desirable:

* Health & Safety Qualification i.e. SMSTS, IOSH or equivalent
* Working knowledge of FM Capital Works.
* Previous experience of Facilities Project Management.
* Previous experience of local authority/government processes/procedures.
* Previous experience of the tendering processes and procedures.
